CHAPTER 2 INTO THE FORBIDDEN FOREST

546 Words
Aria’s legs burned as she ran, her paws barely touching the forest floor. The cold night air stung her lungs, but she didn’t stop. Behind her, the whispers and sneers of the Silver Crest Pack faded into darkness, replaced by the rustling of leaves and the distant hoot of an owl. Her wolf howled inside her chest, raw and wounded. Rejected. Humiliated. Alone. The words echoed in her mind, and her heart ached as if someone had ripped it out. But even in her despair, a spark of determination flared. She would survive. She would not remain the weak, broken omega the pack thought her to be. Branches clawed at her hair and arms, roots snagged her feet, but she pressed forward, deeper into the forest. Then… she sensed it. A presence. Strong. Unfamiliar. Watching. Her wolf growled, low and warning, and Aria skidded to a halt. Eyes darting through the shadows, she tried to locate the source. Something moved among the trees, silent but deliberate, its aura impossible to ignore. “Show yourself!” she demanded, though her voice trembled. From the darkness, a figure stepped into the moonlight. Broad, imposing, and impossibly graceful, he moved with the confidence of a predator who had never known fear. His golden eyes locked on hers, and Aria felt a shiver run down her spine. Her wolf stirred, alert and trembling. “You shouldn’t be out here alone,” the figure said, his voice deep and commanding. “This forest is dangerous for someone like you.” “I… I can handle myself,” Aria replied, trying to mask the tremor in her voice. But her words sounded small even to her own ears. He studied her silently, as if weighing her very soul. Then, slowly, he took a step closer. “You smell… different,” he said. “Your scent… it calls to me.” Aria’s breath caught. Her wolf howled silently within her, sensing the truth before her mind could. Mate. Her mate. But this wasn’t Logan. This was… someone else. Someone powerful. Someone she couldn’t yet understand. “I… I don’t belong to anyone,” she whispered, shaking her head, disbelief and fear warring in her chest. “You belong to me,” he said simply. His eyes softened for the briefest moment before hardening again. “And you will understand what that means soon enough.” A sudden rustle in the trees made her spin. Her wolf bristled. Predators? Rivals? Aria didn’t wait to find out. She bolted, dodging roots and low branches, heart hammering. The figure stepped forward, effortlessly matching her pace. “Stop running,” he commanded. “You are not ready to face them alone.” Her chest heaved as she finally skidded to a halt. “Who… who are you?” He stepped fully into the moonlight, and Aria finally saw him clearly. His aura radiated power, danger, and authority. “Kael Draven,” he said. “Lycan King. And you… are my mate.” Aria froze. Her wolf howled in disbelief, then recognition. The bond was undeniable, awakening with a force she had never felt before. Fear, anger, and confusion twisted in her chest, but beneath it all, a strange certainty settled over her. Her life had changed forever.
