EPISODE NINE
Few hours later, Lina had arrived another town called Shebshi. She thought of Allen and Celine not knowing that
Celine had gone back to Megiddo. "Are they still together? Is he seeing other ladies? Is he even thinking of me? She pondered.
Lina wept, Lina sang, Lina prayed that Allen would be hers one day. She thought she could keep the communication line between she and Allen open but unfortunately for her, Allen was always busy with his work and did not seem to have time to pick calls or send text messages.
The thought of being away from Allen for several months and knowing that Allen was not hers filled Lina with dismay. When she could no longer bear it, she decided to commit suicide. She was about to take her own life by hanging herself on a tree one fateful afternoon in a bush when her phone began to ring, behold it was Allen who was calling. Excited, she quickly threw away the rope which she wanted to use to hang herself and gladly received the call. To her greatest disappointment, Allen only called to say 'hi.' Depressed and downcast, she made to leave the bush. On her way home, she met a nice young man who introduced himself as Majid. He was very handsome but he was actually not Lina's dream man. All she wanted and ever wanted was Allen and no one else. Nevertheless, she decided to get acquainted with Majid for companionship's sake. In his clear, lovely and steady voice, through a handsome smile, Majid greeted Lina.
"Hello beauty, I am Majid, may I know your name pleeeeease?"
"I am Lina, she replied without a smile. "Where are you headed?" He asked still smiling.
"Home," she said.
"Can I give you a ride?"
"How can you do that when you do not have a car....?" Just as she was asking the question, she raised her head and saw to her greatest bewilderment, a very flashy, expensive-looking car ahead. Majid pointed out that the car was his. When they got to where the car was parked, he opened the door for Lina and she climbed in and sat down. He turned round and climbed unto the driver's seat. Positioning himself in front of the steering, he turned on the ignition, reversed, turned and drove off. Lina was not carried away even a bit by the apparently wealthy-looking young man. In fact, she was seeing Allen in place of Majid. Majid spoke softly to her; while he drove, he made her know how he felt about her but Lina was not in the least interested in accepting him as her lover.
In his quiet way, Majid kept on persisting; presenting lots and lots of gifts to Lina but her heart was with Allen. Majid never gave up. He kept on coming to her, at her place of work, at her place of residence and even sometimes on the road, telling her how he felt about her. When she saw how persistent and serious he was, she decided to give him a chance in her life. They both became the closest friends ever, to the extent that Allen's picture began to fade away gradually from her mind. One particular day, Lina had gone to Majid's place to visit him. While the conversation was on, she spoke. "Majid."
"Yes my dear," he answered.
"Do you know you are very persistent? Even when I didn't want any affair with you, you never gave up on me." "Lina, you should know that's because I love you so much, or don't you love me?" "I sure do love you," she said putting her head down quite unsure of what she said. "Thank you Lina," he said giving her a peck on the cheek.
One Sunday evening, Majid and Lina went out on a date. They ate and drank and talked about many things. After awhile, they took a walk to a very beautiful garden to relax and to enjoy the view of floral arrangements. When they were relaxing, Majid suddenly went on one knee and brought out a golden ring.
"Lina, I have come to love you with all my being and I never dreamt of letting you out of my sight. You are a woman so loving, caring and strong, my life's journey will be halted without you by my side. That's why I ask. Will you marry me?"
