Since the encounter with Allen, Lina had not being herself. She became unusually quiet and more reserved. She sought for a way to make Allen her own and prayed earnestly for him to at least ask her to be his girlfriend and thereafter ask her hand in marriage. So it was, Lina's feelings for Allen continued to grow with each passing second. Allen too could not deny the fact that he had feelings for Lina but to him, he could not risk any embarassment from any lady especially as he saw Lina to be a very responsible lady who could embarrass to the core, any man who asked her out. If that was the case, he would have gone straight ahead to ask her hand in marriage but he was not yet ready for marriage, so, he decided to be himself. Lina of course would be ready to wait for Allen till the time he would be ready to get married, if only he knew how Lina desired him, if he could just ask her to be his girlfriend; she would be contented with that for the moment. Lina kept her feelings very strong for Allen, although they rarely saw each other but each time she saw him, she would watch him keenly. One day an opportunity surfaced which would bring them close together. It happened that day that Lina was not feeling very well, she decided to visit the hospital. She gathered all the strength she could and walked to where she could get a cab to the hospital. Because she was so weak, she could not move briskly. Her movement was so sickly that anyone who saw her was forced to ask some questions. Coincidentally, Allen was driving towards the direction she was coming from. Seeing how weak she was, he quickly offered to take her to the hospital in his car. Lina was very excited at this, because, though sick, she would be close to Allen for the moment.
She even felt fortunate for falling sick.
"My misfortune has turned into a great opportunity, a great opportunity to be close to Allen. Maybe this is the time be would ask me out," she thought. Allen jumping out of his car said.
"Lina, are you okay?" "Not really, am just feeling weak and feverish," she replied.
"Oh.... Sorry about that."
"Thank you so much for your concern." "Let me take you to the hospital."
In her heart she said.
"How can I refuse such an offer? Allen you need not ask, my answer is definitely yes." Pretending not to be comfortable with the offer, she replied.
"No please, I do not want you to bother yourself, I can certainly take care of myself." Again, in her heart, she said.
"Allen, you dare not think that am serious about what I just said." "No Lina, I insist. You look very weak and you really need a little support, please let me take you to the hospital in my car."
Excitedly Lina got in with a kind of strength sweeping through her that she herself didn't know where it came from but pretending not to like the idea of Allen taking her to the hospital. On getting to the hospital, Lina was taken to the female ward while Allen stayed back in the Out-PatientDepartment to pay some amount of money to the cashier as deposit for treatment to commence. The cashier, a young lady in her early twenties, dark and plump with a beautiful face, who was very jovial greeted Allen. "Good day sir." "Thank you my dear," Allen replied. "You look very handsome," she said with a broad smile. Allen, with surprise written all over his face replied.
"Thanks."
"You are welcome," she said, still smiling. "Erm... Sorry to bother you, is the lady Lina your girlfriend or your wife?" "She is a member of my church," Allen replied. "Are you sure?" the cashier asked further. Allen, now irritated, only managed to suppress his anger.
"Yes I am sure," he replied, trying hard not to shout.
"Okay... " she said.
While in the hospital, Allen took good care of Lina. He collected her phone number so that he could reach her should there be any problem. Lina who was exceedingly glad about how things have turned out, said to herself. "At least, he has my number now and I also have his, what an opportunity for me to finally have him to myself."
