The stranger’s golden eyes lingered on me, burning with something I couldn’t name. His words replayed in my head like a curse.
Never meant to be his. Fate has bigger plans for you.
I stepped back, claws flexing at my sides. “What do you mean by that?”
He tilted his head, studying me like I was something rare. “That mark on your skin—it isn’t ordinary. It’s a Fate’s Claim. It means rejection cannot sever you from destiny. You belong to something greater than a single Alpha.”
His certainty rattled me. My stomach twisted. “Why should I believe you?”
A smirk touched his lips, dark and knowing. “Because, little wolf, I’ve been searching for you for years. That mark belongs to legends older than your pack, older than your Alpha. And now… it belongs to you.”
Before I could answer, a familiar presence slammed into my senses. My breath caught.
Damon.
The air thickened, charged with his fury as he stepped into the clearing. His wolf eyes glowed silver, his jaw tight with rage. His gaze locked first on me—then on the man beside me.
“Get away from her,” Damon growled, voice rough and lethal.
The stranger—Adrian—didn’t move. He only turned his head slightly, golden eyes gleaming. “Ah. The Alpha who thought he could reject fate. Tell me, Damon—how’s that working out for you?”
Damon’s wolf surged so close to the surface that his claws slid free, glinting under the moonlight. “She is none of your concern.”
Adrian chuckled low. “On the contrary. She is every bit my concern. That mark ties her to me as much as it does to you. And unlike you…” his gaze flicked back to me, “…I will not reject her.”
The forest vibrated with Damon’s snarl. Power rolled off both Alphas, colliding like storms. For a heartbeat, I thought they would tear each other apart right there in front of me.
“Stop!” My voice broke through the tension, sharper than I intended. Both of them froze, eyes locked on me.
I took a shaky step back, my heart hammering. “I’m not some prize for either of you to fight over. I don’t know what this mark means, and I don’t care right now. I just need… space.”
Adrian’s smirk softened into something unreadable. He inclined his head slightly. “Very well. But know this, little wolf—fate doesn’t wait forever. And neither will I.”
Damon growled at his words, but I turned before either could say more. My feet carried me away from the clearing, away from their burning stares. I didn’t stop until the lights of the pack house came into view.
Only then did I feel it—Damon’s presence still behind me, following like a shadow.
