Anthony didn't know where to start from. What kind of lie can he probably tell Gwen that she will accept? He had trained her children well, they hardly believe a thing without good and solid proof. Now, this is his own turn too. He had to look for a candid lie. This is what he had been avoiding his whole life. Now it had hit him in the face.
"You should tell me what you are doing here. I am your father. You can't ask me what I'm doing here."
"But I think I should because you sneaked in not through the main entrance like an expected visitor."
"Alright. I will tell you what I'm doing here. Now can you tell me yours?"
"I.......I'm sorry father. We got into trouble. I and Joce. This is the punishment that's why we always come home late."
"You got in trouble with Mitchell?"
"Yes father."
"So, where is Joce?"
"With her friend. I'm only serving the punishment not both of us."
They heard footsteps.
"This way." Gwendolyn said holding her father's wrist and tip toed to the next corridor."
"How did you get past the guards father?" She demanded.
"I was once a great warrior under the sea." He boasted.
"This is no sea father. And they have much more security than ever. They have electric gate.Tell me what you are here for father, perhaps I can help."
"You can't help it Gwendolyn." He said looking straight into her daughter's face." You shouldn't know what I'm here for."
"Why? Are you keeping things to yourself now?"
"There are some things you better don't know about." He whispered.
"Maybe I should tell you this. Lady Mitchell offered me thirty billion dollars some minutes ago. All that she want from me is just a surgery. I need to change my face to look like some else." Gwendolyn said angrily.
"What? What for? You dare not do that." He warned seriously.
"And why shouldn't I?"
"These people are dangerous."
"You seems to be more dangerous now father. Keeping things away from your child doesn't keep you at a safer hand from being too dangerous yourself." Gwendolyn fired.
"What do you mean?" Leo asked surprisingly. Gwendolyn had never talked like that to him. To Gwendolyn, their father is the one that usually hide almost everything form them and they ended up paying for every bit of it. Anthony's heart sank. He had probably hit the wrong part of her body which had been lying low since she was born. Why did he have to lose his dignity? Sooner or later they will know when he eventually take Layla home. Jocelyn will want to know why. He resolved it's better to tell Gwendolyn than to go home and face Jocelyn's wrath.
"Alright. I will tell you."
"If you lie to me father, I will go to the sea and never return." She threatened.
"Gwen?!" Anthony's eyes lit up. Why did she have to put up such action all a sudden?
"Your mother is here." He said slowly.
"Who?" She asked rather confused.
"Amelia." He confessed.
"What" what.....do you mean.....father? Mother is alive?" She almost screamed. Anthony quickly covered her mouth with his palm.
"She is being held captive here for the past five years."
"My own mother? Held captive? For what?"
"She is around here Gwendolyn. I need to find her." Anthony said making to excuse himself from her.
"Tell me what the hell is going on father." She shouted.
Meanwhile, Ethan had heard the little rumbling. He headed straight to the corridor where Gwendolyn and her father were standing. Gwendolyn heard footsteps, he covered her father down and came out to Ethan.
"What are you doing here Gwen?"
"I was waiting for Mitchell junior."
"He isn't around. He asked me to tell you not to come again."
"Why?"
"Mine is just to deliver not to answer enquire." Ethan said." I want to be on my way. You should get going." He added.
"I'm waiting for Milady."
"Why?" Ethan asked with surprise written on his face.
"She asked me to." She lied.
Ethan stared at her unbelievably.
"What have you done?" He demanded.
"I've been working with the Mitchell for the past eight years. I've never gotten the chance to speak with Milady. Not even once. Even when I lost my grandfather, she only sent her condolences. How did you manage to do it?" He asked, flabbergasted.
"Only God knows Ethan." She replied coldly.
"I need to be on my way now."
"Of course."
Gwendolyn watched as Ethan made towards the pole leading to the next corner. She saw him leave. She quickly went back to where her father was waiting, he had gone.
Immediately, she headed down to the entrance and made her way home.
She is mixed. She didn't know whether to be happy that her mother is alive or to be sad that their father had betrayed them.
When she got home, her father hasn't returned but Jocelyn had. She walked in quietly and settled down on the chair at the sitting room. Jocelyn was peeping out the marine camp stealing a glance at Lucas at work with other workers.
"I don't know why father had to lie that he is living alone?" Jocelyn grumbled angrily as she left the door. And Gwendolyn is fighting it hard to keep her angry nature from her sister. At least till their father's return and probably never return.
"He used to lie about alot of things." Gwen retorted.
"Of course. It's good that you too had realised."
"I had realised a long time ago. I just think he is doing that to protect us."
"Maybe."
"No, he is not." Gwendolyn snapped.
Jocelyn was surprised. She knew Gwen is fond of protecting their father in every way but today seems different. Maybe Anthony had provoked her.
"How far about the music practice? Did it go well?" Jocelyn asked.
"Yeah."
"I met Olivia's sister. Guess what? She can read too."
"Read? Read what?"
"Nature. Everything. "
What?!" Gwendolyn seems surprised. "She read you?"
"Yes. She knew who I am. She is extra powerful. I must give her that."
"Did Olivia knew now?"
"No, she is smart. She promised not to tell her inasmuch as I don't scare her sister away."
"Oh my! Are there people like that here too?"
"I don't know. But I think the family are keeping it a top secret."
"Good for them."
Silence descended upon them for a while.
"Marcellus asked me not to come again." Gwendolyn broke the silence.
"Why?"
"His mother offered me thirty billion dollars to do surgery."
"What?" Jocelyn had her mouth opened." Thirty what?" She queried unbelievably.
"I don't think everything is going on well with his family. His mother wanted me to look like someone. A girl whom I had been seeing on his portraits in the house. It is either she is his close relative or a girlfriend. "
"This is weird."
"She gave me two weeks to think about it."
"Thirty billion dollars? Are they that rich to give such amount of money off like that?"
"I don't have an idea. But I won't do the surgery."
"Why? It's a lot of money."
"I don't know. You don't think they will not find out who I am?"
"It's a face surgery Gwendolyn not tail." Jocelyn fired moving close to her on the table.
"There is still a little problem Jocelyn. "
"What problem?"
"The girl........she was the girl that came that day begging for hot bath."
"What?"
"She is not dead? I saw her that day and I recognized her in the portrait."
"Did you tell her?"
"No, I don't. It might not be necessary."
"You think so?" Jocelyn asked looking scared.
"This will be the first time in five years that I saw you afraid and scared Jocelyn." Gwen put out.
"This is a difficult choice Gwendolyn. I don't think Leo will accept any of this offer. He won't. And I'm tired of this wretched life." Jocelyn said sadly.
Gwendolyn didn't utter any word. Right now, she believes their father had kept alot from them than he can chew. She didn't want to tell Jocelyn what he is up to, she will lynch him to death. Neither can she also forgive him.
"Today, we ought to go to Mummy's grave. Who knows where Leo had gone."
"I am not going to her grave. Not anymore."
"Why? Why will you say that?"
"I think we had to let go of it."
"Let go of what? Mother?" Jocelyn asked with rage.
"If that is it."
"You've got to be kidding me. What are you saying....."
"Enough Joce. She is gone and will never come back. Why don't you want to let go?"
"Are you kidding me? I am talking about Mother here Gwen not just someone......What are you pointing....."
She was cut short by the entrance of Anthony and Layla. Gwendolyn stood up from her chair and Jocelyn stared angrily with her mouth opened.
"Hi girls. Layla is here. I'm sure you both know her. She will be living with us now. I have told her not to go near to the marine site." Anthony said.
"And why should we welcome her here? And can you please tell us what is going on here now?"Jocelyn fired.
"This is mine to handle Jocelyn and not yours to query me. You do as I say not to query me." Anthony fired angrily.
"If that is what you want Leo, then she is not staying. Or she stays and you forget about me." Jocelyn threatened.
Gwendolyn didn't say a word. She was boiling with rage. How could their father betrayed their trust in him so easily like that?
She was terrified.
"I am not here to cause any misunderstanding between you and your father Joce. If you had to blame anybody, blame me. He took me in because he had no choice." Layla defended.
"What choice? What stupid choice did he have to choose from for harbouring a werewolf." She snapped.
"Joce?" Gwendolyn called angrily facing her with ferocious look. Layla's face went down and Anthony just look on.
"What do you want to do? Tell her to off her chain and tear me apart? At least that's what a werewolf do." Jocelyn barked at her sister.
Gwendolyn knew it will be a great mistake if Jocelyn learnt that their mother is alive and in Marcellus house. It's better to keep her in the dark.
"She is staying Jocelyn. "Gwendolyn said.
"Of course she is. Since you had decided to forget about your own mother, nothing else matters to you. Or did they?"
Beads were already dropping from her eyes as he couldn't retain her anger. She didn't know why her sister and father are behaving weird and why they are letting her out of everything. She made for the door and headed to the sea Anthony run after her hoping the men at the marine wouldn't see them. And luckily they didn't.
By the time Anthony got to the sea, Jocelyn is already on her way travelling down under the sea. She had to go anyways. What's the use of staying? She didn't want to stay in a family where they resent her. She wanted to meet her flesh and kind. She wage her tail in the sea as the beads continue dropping. She made for the gate that bind the seven seas where the Old Guard was guiding.
