There was internal bleeding in the area hit by the bullet. What was initially thought to be a graze was actually a deep wound. The doctor had examined it and performed the necessary procedure to stop the bleeding at the surgery site, but a transfusion was still needed.
Nessa was almost out of breath while talking to the doctor on the phone. Viz was looking at his ‘wife’ and was worried for her. If he could only transfer to himself the fear gripping Nessa's heart, he would have done it.
