Jessica POV
I woke up more refreshed than I had in weeks. It felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders now that I had decided about my future. As I got dressed and headed out of my room, I saw Gabriel standing outside, waiting for me.
“Good morning,” he said, smiling.
“Good morning,” I replied, returning the smile.
“I was hoping we could go for a walk together this morning,” Gabriel said. “There's something I wanted to show you.”
“Sure, that sounds great,” I said, feeling excited at the prospect of spending some more time with Gabriel.
We walked for a while until we came to a clearing in the woods. In the middle of the clearing was a beautiful waterfall cascading down a rocky cliff. I gasped in awe at the sight.
“It's beautiful,” I said.
“I thought you would like it,” Gabriel said, looking pleased.
We sat down on a nearby rock and just enjoyed the view for a while. As we sat there, we heard someone approaching. It was Veronica, the pack's omega.
“Hey, Gabriel,” Veronica said, sounding a little nervous. “I was just looking for you.”
“Hey, Veronica,” Gabriel said. “What's up?”
“I was wondering if I could talk to you,” Veronica said.”In private?” she said, her eyes pointing at me.
“Sure,” Gabriel said, standing up. “Let's go over.”
I watched as they walked away, feeling a little left out. I knew that Gabriel was the alpha of the pack and had a responsibility to all the members, but I couldn't help feeling a twinge of jealousy at Veronica's easy familiarity with him.
As I sat there, lost in thought, I heard a rustling behind me. I turned to see Veronica's friends approaching. They were all beautiful and confident, with an air of superiority that made me feel uncomfortable.
“Hey, new girl,” one of them said, smirking. “What are you doing out here all alone?”
“Just enjoying, the view,” I said, trying to sound confident.
“Well, enjoy it while you can,” another one said. “Once Veronica's done with Gabriel, he'll never look twice at you.”
I felt my face flush with anger. Who were they to talk to me like that? But before I could say anything, they walked away, laughing.
I sat there for a while longer, feeling more alone than ever. When Gabriel and Veronica finally returned, I was ready to go back to my cabin.
“See you later,” Gabriel said, smiling at me.
“Bye,” I said, feeling a little flat.
As I walked away, I couldn't help but think about Veronica and her friends. They were everything I didn't want to be – mean, petty, and exclusive. I wondered how I was going to fit into this pack, and if I would ever be accepted.

After a few weeks of settling into my new life as an omega in the Blackwood pack, things started to change rapidly. One evening, Gabriel called for an urgent pack meeting. The top ranks of the pack gathered in the living room of our pack house, looking at Gabriel expectantly. I decided to take a walk to clear my head.
A heavy shroud of unease settled upon me as I wandered through the shadowed Forest parts. It felt as though a pair of unseen eyes were boring into my back, sending shivers cascading down my spine. I quickened my pace, dismissing the disconcerting sensation as a figment of my imagination. But no matter how hard I tried to convince myself, the persistent feeling clung to me tenaciously, refusing to relinquish its grip.
On my way back to the pack house, I noticed Veronica standing outside, her body language fraught with unease. Her presence only heightened my apprehension, and I hesitated, unsure of how to approach her. Before I could gather my thoughts, however, she abruptly turned and scurried away, her eyes flitting anxiously in every direction. Her behavior was peculiar, to say the least, and it further fueled the growing sense of foreboding within me.
Suppressing my mounting concerns, I stepped inside the pack house, only to be met with a scene of frenzied commotion. Pack members congregated in agitated clusters, their voices pitched and animated. It became apparent that our current location had been compromised, our once safe haven now laid bare before the prying eyes of rival packs. Danger lurked at our doorstep, threatening to unravel everything we had tirelessly built.
The pack leaders, their faces etched with worry, desperately sought a solution amidst the chaos. Suggestions for relocation were thrown into the tumultuous mix, each proposition carrying the weight of sacrifice. To abandon our home meant leaving behind cherished memories, abandoning the comfort and security we had painstakingly established. Yet, with the walls closing in around us, the prospect of remaining seemed even more perilous.
As the contentious discussion raged on, an insidious feeling tugged at the edges of my consciousness. It whispered, a sinister undertone that crawled beneath my skin, insisting that we were not alone. It was as if unseen ears were pressed against the walls, eavesdropping on our every word. My paranoia intensified when the distinct sound of a twig snapping pierced the air, swiftly followed by retreating footsteps.
Anxiety surged through my veins like wildfire, urging me to act. Excusing myself from the gathering, I moved with silent determination, my senses attuned to the slightest disturbance. Adrenaline propelled me forward, urging me toward the source of the ominous noise. I slipped through the darkness, keen on unraveling the truth that lay hidden in the shadows.
Drawing closer to the forest's edge, my pulse thundered in my ears, drowning out the world around me. And then, a glimpse of movement—furtive and fleeting—my eyes could catch. It was a figure, swift as a phantom, vanishing into the cloak of night. My heart pounded in my chest as realization dawned upon me. The watcher, the intruder, belonged to another pack, an ominous presence that threatened our fragile existence.
A surge of urgency propelled me back to the pack house, my every step a blur of urgency and trepidation. My entrance into the room was met with a collective shift of attention.
Every gaze swiveled toward me, curiosity etched upon their faces, but an unexpected calamity stole away my words. Unexpectedly, a thunderous explosion erupted outside, ripping through the air with a force that jolted the very foundations of our sanctuary. The ground convulsed beneath my feet, as if the earth itself recoiled from the sheer magnitude of the blast.
Chaos erupted within the room as panic gripped the hearts of my pack mates. My mind whirled with a maelstrom of emotions—fear, disbelief, and a fierce determination to survive. The ceiling groaned under the weight of descending debris, and I instinctively shielded myself, my heart pounding like a relentless war drum.
Dust and fragments rained down upon us, casting a hazy veil over the scene. The acrid scent of smoke seeped into the air, burning my nostrils and stinging my eyes, intensifying the sense of urgency. It was a stark reminder that our haven was no longer the sanctuary it once was. We were under attack, and the very fabric of our existence teetered on the edge of oblivion.
Amidst the chaos, a chilling silence settled for a brief moment, broken only by the crackling flames that danced on the outskirts of our shattered refuge. Time seemed to slow as we assessed the extent of the damage, searching desperately for any sign of our assailants. The room reverberated with the collective gasps of realization, each inhale weighted with trepidation.
Gabriel POV
I scrambled out of the meeting place, my heart racing as I realized what had happened. The other members followed me closely as we approached our food storage, only to find it engulfed in flames.
Panic set in as everyone began to shout and scramble for a solution. I knew that we had to act fast before it was too late, “Get to the River '' my voice pierced through the murmuring and panic in the pack as I shouted for us to get the fire under control.
Without a second thought, we quickly connected a cord to the river and used buckets to douse the flames. But try as we might, our efforts seemed futile against the raging inferno.
As we finally managed to put out the fire, my heart sank at the sight before me. Our food storage was now nothing but a charred ruin. It was a devastating blow to the pack, we knew this was just the beginning, we had to move, and fast.

Gabriel's anguish was a tempest of emotion, surging through him like a raging inferno. His eyes, once filled with determination, now flickered with the ferocity of a wounded beast. The weight of his pack's devastation bore down on his broad shoulders, fueling deep-seated anger that clawed at his very core.
