Valeria's eyes locked onto mine, and for a moment, I saw a flash of something primal and wild. But then, her expression softened, and she looked away.
"I'm fine, Luca," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "Let's just focus on finding out what Sabine and Victor were working on."
But I wasn't convinced. There was something going on with Valeria, and I was determined to find out what.
As we left the safe house and made our way to the old warehouse, I kept a close eye on Valeria. She seemed normal, but I could sense a subtle tension in her movements.
When we arrived at the warehouse, Alexei motioned for us to be quiet. "I don't hear anything," he whispered. "But that doesn't mean we're alone."
I nodded, my senses on high alert. We crept inside, our eyes adjusting to the dim light.
The warehouse was vast and empty, except for a single crate in the center of the room. It was old and worn, with strange symbols etched into the side.
Valeria's eyes locked onto the crate, and she took a step forward. "What's that?" she asked, her voice low and husky.
I felt a shiver run down my spine. There was something about Valeria's tone that didn't feel right.
"I don't know," Alexei said, his eyes fixed on the crate. "But I think we're about to find out."
As we approached the crate, I could feel a strange energy emanating from it. It was like nothing I had ever felt before.
Valeria reached out and touched the crate, and suddenly, the symbols etched into the side began to glow.
"It's opening," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
And then, the crate lid burst open, revealing a strange artifact inside. Valeria's eyes locked onto it, and she let out a low growl.
"Valeria, what's wrong?" I asked, my voice firm.
But she didn't answer. She was too busy staring at the artifact, her eyes glowing with an otherworldly light.
