Similarities

After signing the contract, Lyra immediately went to W country following the company's advice that it would be good for her to come early. Preferably, before the semester started, so that she would have ample time to familiarize with the things she needed to learn in the company. Additionally, she will be able to adjust and be accustomed with the place she would live from then on. Hence, Lyra didn’t think too much since they had a point. Adjusting and getting familiar in an unfamiliar place would be appropriate for a child like her who would start to live in a foreign country. At the same time, the company was considerate enough to shoulder her phone bills since she was a child living alone far away from her family. What’s more, keeping in touch with family by giving them a call every other day would be enough to reassure them that their child was safe. “All of this information was from your file in the lab, but there are some details that were under highest restriction and I don’t know why they would do so,” Alex finally added after explaining everything he knew; answering Lyra's question patiently. Then Alex added with melancholy, “As for how I got it? Although I was also one of their experiments, I have my own connections slowly built inside as I stayed there for so long.” Lyra didn't say a word after Alex finished speaking. It was unknown to Alex what she was thinking. It probably feels unbelievable that this kind of detail was even in the laboratory’s file which could only mean that they had investigated everything about her. But she didn’t understand what kind of information about her that was considered confidential enough for them to put it in the highest restriction on the file. There was a long silence between them, and Alex didn't urge her to respond at all. He decided to eat while waiting for her to digest what he said. Besides, the food was getting cold, but he no longer urged Lyra to eat with him. Also, he did not blame Lyra for not trusting him right away. It was unknown how long it took Alex to wait for her response. He was about to finish eating when Lyra's clear voice finally rang in his ears. However, he was completely caught off guard after hearing her absurd question. "Does this body belong to your biological sister?" Lyra asked in a serious but hesitant tone. It was obvious that she wasn’t sure how to ask such a question. "Ugh..." Choked after hearing such a question, Alex coughed hard and immediately grabbed a glass of water, swallowing all its contents by taking a big gulp before looking back at Lyra totally speechless, "Where… Where did you get such a terrible idea?!" "Seriously? Are you thinking about transmigrating from one body to another? What kind of books did you read when you were a child?" Alex added helplessly without waiting for Lyra’s response. "No, you're not my biological sister.. I'm the only child of my parents. You don't have to worry." Waving his hand as he rejected her ideas. "I know you are doubting me since you can't remember, but I'm telling the truth." Alex assured her. "It's up to you to decide whether you choose to believe or not." He shrugged his shoulders naturally like he's been always talking to her this way. “I won't force you to believe anyway.” Speculating what Lyra could be thinking despite being speechless and helpless, Alex went directly to the point. "If you're thinking that way because we are very similar to each other, then don't worry it's not what you think." "Then how could you explain why our looks are similar to each other?" Lyra calmly asked after taking a deep breath. Deep inside her heart, she sighed in relief after knowing that her body didn’t originally belong to someone else. On the other hand, maybe because of Alex's carefree attitude, Lyra finally felt more comfortable while speaking with him. She no longer felt hesitant to ask more directly. Yet, Lyra couldn’t help knitting her brows in confusion. Frowning deeply as she asked one question after another. "Since we're not biological siblings, but experiments, how could we have too many similarities? Are you telling me that this is the result of what they did to us? But when did it happen?" "Regarding this…" Alex suddenly paused and hesitated for a while before he added as he rubbed his brows again, seemingly having a headache. "Can you ask one question at a time? It’s not easy to answer all of them.” Sighing in helplessness, Alex added, “It's a very long explanation.. I don't think we should start on this… Maybe you should ask `what are we?' instead."
