Joanna felt a chill run through her as she thought, 'Am I dying here today? And even facing such a humiliating death.'
She closed her eyes, bracing for her demise.
In her blurred senses, she heard the sound of a fight.
When she opened her eyes again, Lewis was there.
"H-How are you here?" Joanna's voice trembled as she asked.
"If I weren't, tomorrow's headlines would feature you," Lewis stated. "Get up. We're going back to the palace."
Joanna tried to stand but couldn't. Perhaps from fear or from the alcohol, her legs wouldn't support her.
Seeing this, Lewis hoisted her onto his shoulder. Joanna instinctively resisted, which only earned a pat on her bottom from Lewis. He said in a cold tone, "Don't move. You can't even walk now. I'll put you down when we're back at the palace."
