I woke the next morning, feeling drained and groggy. My limbs were heavy, and my head throbbed. I tried to sit up in bed but groaned at the pain in my back. Miriam stirred at the side of the bed and lifted her head up to look at me. As I lay there, bits and pieces of the night before slowly began coming back to. I remembered the burning, unbearably painful heat, and everyone was trying to help me. I didn't know what it was, but my father told me he would explain it in the morning, so I decided I would seek him out in his office. I moved the blanket off of me and went to sit up, only for a sharp pain in between my shoulderblades to stop me in my tracks. Wincing, I tried to reach behind my head to rub the spot that hurt so much. I froze when I felt something large pertruding from my back.
