Kane's POV
"s**t!" I cursed as I landed softly on the floor, holding Sophie tightly. She stared at me while sucking her thumb. She was so beautiful with those eyes—one thing that attracted a forbidden feeling towards Kestrel.
The guns were getting louder, and there's no way I would go there with the baby. What if the bullets flew and hit her? I heard footsteps and hid behind the pillars. I didn't want to shift. Xander wouldn't be able to carry the baby in his wolf form without hurting her.
"I can handle her. I'll strap her on my neck while I tear those tiny humans to pieces," he replied, and I shut my mouth for him to keep quiet. I would have to be smart on this one... I just hoped the bastard I called comes over quickly because if anything happens to Kestrel, I'm blowing up his f*****g brains, followed by this city.
The baby began to cough, and I shook my head at her, holding her mouth. "Not here, Sophie. It's f*****g dangerous." But that seemed so amusing to her as she stared at me with curiosity and began to babble.
"He's here! Come out now!" someone yelled, and I knew running wasn't the right option. I would have to fight with the baby.
"Get the f**k out! You're under arrest, K—" I grabbed the iron pole beside me and swung it to the bastard's head, and he fell down. More kept coming, and I was so glad to the Moon Goddess that a weapon like this existed. I swung the pole hard to every bastard that was coming, and the gunshots suddenly seemed to reduce.
I heard footsteps behind me and swung it hard to hit the bastard, but he yelled.
"Hey, Kane! It's me—drop that thing down!" I turned to stare at Darwin, the one I had texted, and Sophie began to cry, thrashing in fear against me, making me throw a glare at him.
"She doesn't like noise! Give me one reason why I shouldn't bash your head against the wall now!" I seethed hard at him, and he gave me a very shocking glare.
"I saved your life, asshole, and that baby would have gotten you killed. Weren't you supposed to throw that thing away?" He queried, and I ignored the i***t and did the most ridiculous thing in my life—rocking her back softly and telling her it's okay. Darwin was one of the persons I had reached out to look for my sister. He was a very filthy rich and greedy tech expert who never helped without money. His father was an Alpha in Mosaic Pack, but he left since he wasn't regarded.
"This is my niece. Say trash about her again, and I'll hang your skull in your company," I told him, walking outside the building to see the mess that was made all because of my sister. Trent Arnold was a bastard in need of revenge. I thought he died in the car hit, but I never knew he would attack so soon at my arrival.
"Drive us back to the Pack, Darwin," I ordered, pushing the body out of the passenger's seat in my car and entering inside with a crying Sophie.
"What the f**k, Kane? I ain't your driver. Get one of your men to do that shit."
"They're dead, moron. Drive me back to the borders at least, then get an extra ten percent of your money. If you tell me you're saving my life again, I'll puncture your teeth." He didn't say a word to that and got into the driver's seat. I hoped his men took Kestrel to the Pack successfully.
On the way, I was a little frustrated as Sophie wouldn't stop crying. I had to go to a mall to get warm milk for her—meant for babies like her—and after drinking, she slept off, making me sigh in relief till we reached the Pack.
