“I see,” she said on an expelled breath. “Thank you, Jacques.” She had stood in the middle of the floor debating on whether it was safe to remain, or should she just go. He really looked agitated by her presence. “Do not let me interrupt your work, madam,” Jacques said, really putting the accent on the last word, as he moved down the streps and through his maze of books. He placed the books back down and almost scurried toward the stairs. “No, of course not,” she said, wending her way through the maze, toward the table where she had left her things last night.
