Shatter

375 Words
There comes a moment in everyone's life when they question their choices—a haunting why I did this or why didn't I do this. For me, it was, why did I choose him? Why didn't I fight to be with him? This moment will always be etched in my memory, every detail vivid, every emotion raw. The shout of people around me before, the sound of glass shattering against the cold, hard floor still echoes in my mind. I can feel the frantic chaos, the air thick with tension. My arms are still wrapped tightly around my head in an instinctive attempt to shield myself, but I couldn't block it all. I felt the sharp sting of jagged shards embedding themselves into my skin, tearing through flesh, drawing blood. My head throbbed, a dull, persistent ache radiating from the back of my skull where something heavy had struck. Warm, sticky blood trickled down my arms, mingling with tears I didn't even realize I was shedding. I could barely keep my eyes open,I can see my friends' horrified faces swam in my vision as they rush toward me, their voices frantic, calling my name over and over. Their panic only made my chest tighten further, my breath coming in shallow gasps. And then there was him. He wasn't supposed to care anymore—or so I thought. But I saw him too, running towards me, his expression a mix of desperation and fear I had never seen before. It was too much to process. My legs buckled under me, the strength draining from my body like water slipping through cracks. As I fell, my senses started fading, everything blurring into darkness. The cold, hard floor came up to meet me, but I barely felt it. The last thing I remember is the sound of sirens wailing in the distance, piercing through the fog in my mind. I feel a hand gripping mine, holding on as though letting go would mean losing me forever and maybe it did. Someone crying, their voice trembling, repeating the same words over and over "Don't leave me. Please, don't leave me." It's him. His voice is the last thing I hear before the darkness swallows me whole.
