Chapter Nine

812 Words
The moon hung high in the sky, casting a silver glow over the Crescent Moon Pack’s territory. The tension of the evening had finally settled, though whispers of Kieran’s acceptance into the pack still lingered in the air. Lila knew that not everyone would welcome him easily, but that didn’t matter right now. Tonight, in this moment, nothing else existed but them. After the long meeting with her father and the pack, Lila had led Kieran away from the main village, through the forest to a quiet clearing near a small, shimmering lake. This was her favorite place—one she had come to whenever she needed solitude, whenever the weight of her responsibilities became too much. And tonight, she wanted to share it with him. Kieran followed her in silence, his golden eyes flickering in the moonlight. He had barely spoken since her father had accepted him into the pack, but Lila could feel the storm of emotions inside him. Relief. Uncertainty. Longing. She felt it too. A pull so strong it made her breath hitch every time he looked at her, every time his scent wrapped around her like a promise. It was the mate bond—it had been growing stronger every second since they first met. And now, there was nothing left between them but space, and the choice to close it. Lila turned to face him, her heart pounding. “You’re quiet,” she said softly. Kieran hesitated, then exhaled, running a hand through his dark hair. “It doesn’t feel real,” he admitted. “I’ve been alone for so long. And now, I have a pack again. I have... you.” Lila swallowed, stepping closer. “You do have me, Kieran.” He met her gaze, something raw and vulnerable flashing across his face. “Do you regret it?” he asked. “Choosing me?” Her breath caught. “Never.” She reached for his hand, lacing her fingers through his, and he squeezed back instantly, as if afraid to let go. The warmth of his touch sent shivers down her spine. This was inevitable—this connection, this moment. They were mates, bound by fate itself. But more than that, she wanted him. She wanted the man who had fought for his survival, who had been cast out and still held onto his strength. She wanted him, not just because the moon had chosen them for each other, but because she chose him. Kieran’s gaze darkened as he took a step forward, his free hand reaching up to cup her cheek. His thumb brushed against her skin, his touch reverent. “You’re beautiful,” he murmured, almost to himself. Lila closed her eyes for a moment, leaning into his touch. When she opened them again, her heart was pounding, and she knew there was no turning back. She reached up, wrapping her arms around his neck, pulling him down until their lips met. The kiss was soft at first, hesitant, as if both of them were savoring the feeling of finally giving in. But then Kieran let out a low growl, and everything changed. He deepened the kiss, his arms wrapping around her waist, pulling her against him. The warmth of his body sent fire through her veins, and Lila melted into him, letting herself drown in the sensation of his touch. They moved together instinctively, as if their souls had been waiting for this moment. Kieran’s hands traced over her back, memorizing every curve, every dip, as if he was afraid she would disappear. Lila gasped as his lips traveled down to her neck, the spot where their bond pulsed the strongest. Her wolf howled inside her, recognizing her mate’s touch, urging her closer. Kieran pulled back slightly, his breathing heavy, his golden eyes filled with both hunger and restraint. “Are you sure?” he asked, his voice hoarse. Lila looked up at him, her heart full. “I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life.” A low, pleased growl rumbled in his chest before he captured her lips again, lifting her effortlessly into his arms. She clung to him, trusting him completely as he carried her toward the soft grass beneath the towering trees. The night wrapped around them like a blanket, the stars above bearing witness to their union. The bond between them ignited, sealing their fates together in a way neither of them had ever experienced before. As they lay entwined, Kieran’s arms tight around her, Lila felt something shift deep within her soul. She was no longer just the Alpha’s daughter, the future leader of the Crescent Moon Pack. She was his mate. And he was hers. No matter what trials lay ahead, they would face them together. Because tonight, under the light of the moon, they had finally found home in each other.
