The New Recruit

Jeremy's POV

" Your breakfast has been served sir ", William , my butler informs me and leaves the room . I just got out of shower,after some training at the gym. I head down to the dining room and eat my breakfast.

I recieve a call from Andrew, the recruiting officer at paperplanes inc ,the publishing company I own.

"Good Morning , Mr Whittaker, I hope you're doing well.I apologise for calling at such an ungodly hour but I wanted to let you know that the new recruit has landed in chicago and I called her down at the office for you meet her before the orientation, as per company's policy"Andrew says . "okay", I say completely unbothered. I change and pull a car out of my garage and drive ,away from the Whittaker Mansion . I live alone , my parents died when I was 6 , leaving a fortune to my name . Nobody else showed up to claim anything so it is safe to say ,I do not have any relatives except for William , he is not my relative but more like a father to me , he brought me up and gave me all the necessary information I needed to run my father's buisness , paperplanes inc. , the biggest publishing house in chicago. My father loved books and literature, it was his dream to make this company successful, I have the same dream except for the fact that it's all about numbers for me .I am responsible for the success which only comes from business strategies and statistics, not from fangirling over every manuscript sent to us for publishing.

I head to the office . I am heading towards the elevator when someone bumps into me , I turn around to see a small human , utterly dumbfounded ,rubbing her head . She looks absolutely out of place , leggings and a sweatshirt? in my office? who is she ?. Her brown hair is up in a pony tail and for some reason I want to get that hideous hair band out of her hair , her hair cascading will be a sight for sore eyes . Wait? what is wrong with me? I push my thoughts back and say " Earth to Pauper!" , that got her out of her fantasy land and she glared at me . "what? A pauper? Who do you think you are mister? Just because I bumped into you for which by the way I apologised, you think you have the right to insult me? After my joining , the first thing I'll do is report this to HR , you aren't getting away with this" she says , still glaring at me . Wait , When did she apologise? and how dare she disrespect me ?.She said she's joining, that means she's the new recruit, does she not know who I am? . This is going to be interesting. I roll my eyes make my way to elevator. I chuckle when I finally get to my office . Samantha looks at me confused and shocked as to why I am smiling all of a sudden , I have no idea either.

After about 20 minutes, Samantha walks into my office and informs me that the marketing team has gathered in the conference room for the meeting . I finish signing a few files , neatly stack them on my desk and head towards the conference room .

I must say the marketing team had great ideas and we all got so lost in the work that I almost forgot I am supposed to brief the new recruit . When I finally get done with meeting ,it is almost 6 30 pm .

When I enter my office , I see no signs of that short human , I get up to call Samantha but I stop when I find the short human sleeping in my couch . She looks absolutely gorgeous while sleeping, I don't want to wake her up . I sit in my chair and watch her sleep for a few minutes, I was about to wake her up when she wakes up with a jolt and looks at me . She then comes rushing towards me and starts to accuse me of sitting in Mr.Whittaker's esteemed chair . Is she that stupid? I think so . Samantha comes in and introduces her to me .The short human has nerve to call me a Jacka*s , I am going to make her life a living hell. When Samantha tells her who I am , all colour drains from her face , she turns to me and gives me an apologetic smile . It is my turn to speak ,you spawn of Satan.

I ask her to get out of my office and wear better clothes . I expected her to be scared but what I didn't expect was that she'll make a run for it . When she leaves my office , I laugh out loud . It is safe to say , I've had the most fun today than I've had in ages .

I call Andrew and tell him I might not come to office tomorrow as I have to take William's son to the hospital. William's son, Jake got into an accident , a few years ago which affected his spine a great deal and he lost mobility. He has to go for regular checkups and since William is busy with the house , I take Jake to the hospital.

After talking to Andrew , I leave my office and head home .
