Paul's Diner

897 Words
Flashback I can't seem to sleep, I have a gut feeling that something is not right. Giving up, I roll out of bed groaning. I pad downstairs and head into the kitchen. As I reach my hand up to open the cupboard, the hairs on my neck stand up and my ears prick. Something is not right. I turn slowly and freeze. There staring back at me are two sets of glowing red eyes. ***    I stare and stare. I can't seem to comprehend what is happening. Why is Aspen, ASPEN, with the things that murdered my family?  He knows very well what killed my family, how could he betray me like this.  I turn away not able to stand looking at it any longer, but if I had I would have noticed that unlike my families killers, these animals (that I believe are wolves) have gold eyes, not red. I flee down the street. I run until I reach the park and go and sit on my bench. This is my thinking place. I found this bench with my sister after my 1st day of prep and I have loved this place ever since. My life was perfect, or as close to perfect as it could get, I had a loving family and we were well off. I had everything I needed. But life has a way of ruining perfect things, it seems to have a vendetta against them, or maybe it just has a vendetta against me.  I sigh and see that the sky is darkening. I ask a woman passing by what time it is and she tells me that it is 7:00 pm. s**t! Aspen will be so worried, I didn't even think about his anxiety in my anger. I run down the street as fast as my feet will take me.  I reach Paul's Diner and decide to grab Aspen and I some food, hoping he will forgive me.  Paul is a friend of ours, and he manages to give us a meal a day. It's not the 3 meal that other people have but it is our best option and we have never and will never be able to express how much it means to us.  I enter and Paul waves at me, "Hey, Di, you here for your meal?"  I wink and say "How'd ya guess?" He smiles at me and I continue "Paul, Could you do me a favour?"  "Sure hun, what can I do for you?"  "Could you make Aspen's favourite? I'm kind of in a pickle right now," I reply  He beams at me "One of Aspen's Burgers coming right up and you know what I'll even throw in a chocolate milkshake too."  "Thank you SO much," I say before turning and heading for the table tucked into the corner and sitting to wait.  I notice that some other people are sitting in front of me and I tune into their conversation.   "We can't just ignore the situation!" one of the guys says, this one has dark hair and striking green eyes. "We will, we have to" replies another, saying he was intimidating was a complete and utter understatement. He radiates power and authority. Intimidating yet beautiful. From his perfect blonde hair to his beautifully toned body, he was perfect.  I was interrupted from my thoughts by hearing the first guy saying "But.." only to be cut off by the Blondie "ENOUGH," Green Eyes bows his head avoiding eye contact.  "We will not do anything and that is final," Blondie says taking a big breath, his head snaps up and he breathes deeply through his nose a few times. He whirls around and he examines the diner. He finally looks at me and his eyes turn from a huskie blue to gold.  What? How is that even possible? Is my mind playing tricks on me? Maybe its the lighting? I'm pulled from my thoughts by Paul calling my name, I slowly get up and walk to Paul, I can feel Blondie's gaze on my back as I walk. I mumble a quick thanks to Paul and quickly rush out the door. Rhysand's POV I'm in the middle of an argument with my beta, Ricky, about what our pack should do about a group of rogues who are running around causing trouble but the truth is, we can't do anything. If we do something about it we will lose good wolves plus they haven't even done anything to threaten our pack...yet.  I breathe through my nose trying to calm myself when I catch a scent. An amazing scent!  I sniff the air, trying to find the source of the smell. I turn, scanning the diner when my eyes rest on her. She's beautiful, with her golden locks and her blue eyes rimmed with gold.  She's watching me curiously and as soon as our eyes meet, I feel the bond snap into place like the last piece of the puzzle that is me is being put into place. She's my mate.  She looks toward the owner of the diner, Paul, as a name, presumably hers is called. I just catch it. Diana. It fits perfectly because every werewolf knows that Diana is the moon goddess. My goddess.  She runs out the door and I sigh. Ricky's voice brings me back down to Earth "Looks like we have our Luna."
