Vanished without a trace

379 Words
The city pulsed with life outside the tall windows of Olivia Cole’s penthouse, but inside, silence stretched thick and suffocating. She stood by the glass, fingers gripping the phone as she stared at the last message she had sent him. *Where are you? Call me. Please.* Sent two days ago. Never delivered. Her husband was missing. Not just missing—gone. Erased, as if he had never existed. The police had been useless. "No ransom demand, no signs of foul play, no financial irregularities," they had told her. "Men like Adrian Cole don’t just disappear." But he had. And Olivia knew, deep in her bones, that something was wrong. She turned, her sharp eyes settling on the man seated in her living room. Carter Hayes—Adrian’s closest friend and Mercer Industries’ chief legal officer—watched her with measured concern. He had been helping her since the moment Adrian went missing, but even he was beginning to lose faith. "Liv," he said gently, setting his whiskey glass on the table. "It’s been 2 days.No movement on his accounts. No security footage. If he’s alive, he doesn’t want to be found." Her jaw clenched. "You think he ran?" Carter didn’t answer right away. Instead, he leaned back, considering his words carefully. "You and Adrian… things weren’t perfect." Olivia’s stomach twisted, but she kept her expression neutral. "Marriage isn’t always perfect. That doesn’t mean he left me." Carter sighed. "I know that. But I also know that a man as powerful as Adrian doesn’t just vanish unless he wants to." She turned away, pressing a hand to her forehead. She couldn’t believe that. Wouldn’t. Adrian wouldn’t abandon her. He wouldn’t walk away from his empire. Something had happened to him. And if no one else was going to find him, she would. Olivia exhaled sharply, regaining her composure. "I want you to dig deeper, Carter. His calls, his last meetings—everything. Find someone who saw him that night." Carter hesitated. "And if we find out he doesn’t want to be found?" Olivia’s voice was quiet but firm. "Then I’ll make him remember who he is." Because no matter where Adrian was, no matter what had happened to him, one thing was certain— She wasn’t going to stop looking.
