Chapter 1:The calm before the storm

“Lily,the Moon pack are going to visit our pack,”said Victoria as she approached her sister, who was fixated on the herbs she was crashing.
Unlike Lily, who was reserved, Victoria was free spirited and open.
Lily lifted her head towards her sister,pausing the crashing that she had been doing in the small wooden pestle.
“Where did you get that news?”she asked.
I was eavesdropping on Dad and Mum's conversation and it's dad who invited them to form an alliance. They're also hoping that you'll find your mate since there are no signs that he is in our pack.
"The Alpha of the Moon pack is known amongst all packs for his looks and moreover you're in the same age gap Lily,”Victoria stated happily.
“I can't wait to meet him,"she added playfully.
Lily sighed. “I have no intentions of having a mate. Besides the whole experience is scary,the marking part,” she said with worry written all over her face.“What if I’m in heat and he is not around at that particular moment?
What if he is an alpha who is cold and rejects me?
What if he dies or…”
As Lily kept talking,Victoria reached out to her and pinched her cheek.
“Enough with the what ifs Lily your mate will be good to you,the marking will be swift you'll never know that it had happened.
And about the heat period you never know what lies ahead.”
Lily gazed at her sister. “How do you even know all this?”
They had not realised that their mum was at the doorway.
“What are you two gossiping about?”Lori asked.
Nothing, Mum Victoria responded.
But the worry never left Lily's face as she wondered what if it all goes wrong as she was already at the befitting age of getting a mate so why wasn't the moon goddess bestalling upon her a mate from her own pack.
“You seem out of it Lily. Is everything okay?”Lori asked.
“ Yes Mum,” Lily replied.
“Dinner is ready, girls," Lori announced her eyes lingering on Lily wishing her daughter would open up more often.
In the living room Rick and his Beta Shaun were discussing the guests that were to be received from the Moon pack.
“Uncle Shaun,”Victoria and Lily spoke in unison as they approached the two.
Shaun, who was worn out from the preparations, smiled at the girls and asked them how they were doing and bid them farewell.
“You can join us for dinner,”Lori invited Shaun.
“No thank you Lori,I still have some bits I am finishing up with,maybe next time” Shaun replied as he left out the front door.
“Dad,the mac and cheese taste wonderfully,”Lily said happily.
Lori paused with her eating.
“So how sure are you it's your dad who cooked?Lori asked.
“Because whenever you cook mum the cheese is less,”Lily spoke playfully.
They all laughed together.
"Mum,I'm going for a run,Lily said.
She usually had her runs in the night to clear her mind.
She felt free when she ran and in those moments she could not think about anything,its like she was free from whatever held her down.
But this time it's like she had ran far away from her territory.
The dry leaves behind her made a sound as though someone was in the trees.
"Lily,"Shaun said.
"Uncle Shaun.You scared me.Its as though you were sneaking up on me,"Lily shouted.
"The Alpha sent me to get you because it's been some hours since you left the pack,"Shaun said.
"My bad,Uncle Shaun.I didn't realise,Lily said.
As they headed back home.Lily saw the path that led her and her elder brother to wander off.
The incident of the accident that always left an abyss in the heart never left.
Lily had always blamed herself,if only she hadn't gone out that night, maybe Elvis, her elder brother, would still be around to joke with her.
