The sound of fists pounding against the heavy library doors echoed through the Sanctuary.
Once.
Twice.
Then harder.
The old hinges groaned beneath the force.
Dust drifted from the ceiling as another thunderclap rolled across the lake above.
"They're breaking through," Lucas whispered.
Jonathan remained surprisingly calm.
Instead of looking toward the doors, he looked at Lily.
For several long seconds.
Almost as if he were trying to memorize her face.
Then he quietly placed the videotape into her hands.
"No matter what happens..."
"You must protect this."
Lily looked at the tape, then back at Jonathan.
"What about you?"
A faint smile crossed his face.
"I've spent twenty years running."
"I think that's enough."
His answer unsettled her.
