Cathy picked up a box of mixed donuts at the shop near Nancy’s house. She added an extra Boston cream for herself and an extra sugar-coated jelly for Nancy. She figured her friend could save the remainder or give it to Mildred, who could share them with her colleagues at the Buttercup Bend Library. She also got two coffees in go-cups.
Nancy was waiting for her when she knocked on the door. “Don’t make too much noise,” she said, placing a finger near her lips and taking the donut box. “Hobo just fell asleep, and I don’t want to wake him.”
Cathy laughed. “You treat him like a baby.” But she was guilty herself of spoiling her pets. It was great to see Nancy happy again after losing her cat and adopting Hobo.
