Cathy still had an hour before Melody would be at Rainbow Rescues II, but she wanted to check on Doug’s progress on clearing out the toolshed, so she drove to the rescue center. Although she felt apprehensive when approaching the cabin, it dissipated when she heard whistling and saw Steve working with her brother. He had his shirtsleeves rolled up and the first button of his shirt open, exposing a tuft of blond hair. He tossed a hammer on the pile of tools outside the building.
“Hey, Cat,” he greeted. “We’re almost done here. Want to take a look inside?”
Doug smiled. “It’s almost empty now, but I didn’t touch that box in the corner. Maybe you want to go through it.”
