Cathy was touched that Nancy was seeking her advice for the first time. “No. When I got the note, Gran talked me out of skipping the dance. She told me that there are lots of people around and that Howard and Leroy will be keeping an eye on us.”
Nancy smiled weakly. “I guess you’re right. I hate to ruin the party, and Brian and I have a great chance of winning.”
Cathy laughed. “That’s the attitude. Did you say anything to him?”
She shook her head. “I didn’t, but I know he suspects there’s a problem. I had him wait so long when he picked me up.”
