Is It My Fault?

504 Words
Jolly couldn't shake the feeling that Billy had grown distant, that he no longer cared the way he used to. She replayed their conversations in her mind, searching for clues, trying to pinpoint the moment when everything changed. Was it something she said? Something she did? Or was it simply a gradual drifting apart that neither of them noticed until it was too late? However,Billy was consumed by guilt. He couldn't help but feel responsible for the demise of their relationship. Maybe if he had been more attentive, more present, things would have turned out differently. He replayed their arguments, dissecting his own words and actions, searching for signs of where he went wrong. But no matter how hard he tried to piece it all together, he couldn't escape the sinking feeling that he had let Jolly down. Their friends tried to offer words of comfort, reassurances that sometimes things just don't work out, that it wasn't anyone's fault. But Billy and Jolly couldn't accept that. They needed someone to blame, a tangible reason for why their love had unraveled. In the weeks that followed, they found themselves locked in a cycle of blame and recrimination. They would meet for coffee, hoping to find closure, only to end up hurling accusations at each other. Their conversations became battlegrounds, each one fighting to prove their own innocence, unwilling to accept the possibility that they were both to blame. But beneath the anger and hurt, there lingered a deep sadness—a sense of loss that neither of them could shake. They had shared so much together, built a life around each other, and now it was all slipping through their fingers like grains of sand. It wasn't until they found themselves at a mutual friend's wedding, surrounded by happy couples and joyful celebrations, that they realized the futility of their anger. As they watched the bride and groom exchange vows, promising to love and cherish each other for all eternity, they couldn't help but feel a pang of envy. It was in that moment that Billy and Jolly finally let go of their anger and resentment. They realized that assigning blame wouldn't bring them the closure they so desperately sought. Instead, they needed to focus on healing, on finding a way to move forward without each other. Slowly but surely, they began to rebuild their lives. They threw themselves into their work, their hobbies, anything to distract themselves from the pain of their breakup. And with each passing day, the wounds began to heal, the hurt lessened, until one day they woke up and realized that they were going to be okay. They may never fully understand why their love wasn't enough to withstand the trials of life, but they had come to accept that sometimes, things just don't work out the way we want them to. And as they moved forward, they carried with them the memories of their time together—the laughter, the tears, the love that had once burned so brightly.
