  The night wore on, the city outside bustling with life, oblivious to the turmoil within Vanessa's heart. She knew the road ahead was fraught with danger, but she had made her choice. Now, all she could do was hope that it wouldn't lead to her ruin.   Vanessa sat at her kitchen table, her coffee untouched and growing cold.
