The ride to Ella's house was quiet, then it started to pour down heavily. "Oh, stoot!" Kai exclaimed, as he suddenly pulled over the car. "What's wrong?" Ella asked. A frown formed on his face as he said, "I ran out of gas." Ella stared at him in disbelief. "Are you serious?" "Dead serious," he replied, looking at the gas gauge. "My house isn't far from here. If we run, we won't get too wet," Ella said, already reaching for the door handle. "sure, let's go," he said They both scrambled out of the car. The rain was a cold shock, plastering her hair to her face and soaking her dress instantly. She broke into a run, her heels making it difficult, but she pushed on, fueled by a desire to get away from him and this night. A hand grabbed her arm. "Slow down," Kai said, his voice a low growl above the din of the rain. "You'll trip. It's just a little water." She looked at him, his face streaked with water. He looked... concerned. The sight was enough to make her stop, and he pulled her along, his hand firm on her elbow. When they got to her door, she fumbled with her keys, her hands shaking. She finally got the door open, stepped inside, and immediately went to turn up the heater they were dripping wet.Ella went into her room and gave Kai a towel. "would you like to take a shower" she asked him andhe said yes. She took him to her room and brought out pajamas she had not worn before and gave it to him. "What about you, are you not going to take a shower" he asked her. Ella looked up at him and said."I will take one in the visitors bathroom". He hummed and she went to her wardrobe and brought out a shirt and shorts and she left. He looked around at her room, "cute" he murmured. After a few minutes, Ella emerged from the guest bathroom, she had changed into a comfortable T-shirt and shorts, and braided her wet hair. She came to the living room to find Kai standing by the window, staring out at the downpour. He was wearing the pajamas she gave him, and the sight of them on him, so loose and comfortable, made a strange feeling flutter in her chest. He turned to face her, and an awkward silence descended upon them. It wasn't the kind of tense silence from the pub, but the kind that happens when two people are caught in an unexpected situation, both thinking about the same thing and unsure how to move forward. "I'm going to make some tea," Ella said, her voice a little too loud. "Do you want some, or maybe coffee?" "Tea is fine," he said, his eyes still on her. She went to the kitchen and busied herself with the kettle, the clinking of the mugs filling the silence. When she came back with two steaming mugs, he was still standing there. She handed him his and motioned to the couch. They sat down, leaving a small cushion of space between them. The warmth of the mugs was a welcome comfort. "I don't think the rain is going to stop anytime soon",she murmured as she looked out the window. "yeah" he replied staring at the same direction. She turned to his direction and said"Why don't you sleep here tonight, you ran out of gas and no cab will come pick you up in this downpour". Kai did not reply her immediately "okay, why not as long as you promise not to do anything to me" he said with a smile. She rolled her eyes and said"I would never do that". She went to her room and brought out a blanket here sleep on the couch. Kai took the blanket from her saying, "In cases like this the owner of the house usually offers their bed to the visitor." Ella let out a shaky laugh. "Right. And in cases like this, the guest usually doesn't call out the host for their lack of hospitality. You're lucky I'm not making you sleep on the floor." She went to take the mugs they used to and dropped them in the kitchen. "Okay then....... goodnight" Ella said to him. "Goodnight"Kai replied. She went into her room and closed the door. Kai laid down on the couch and he smiled as he closed his eyes preparing to sleep.
