Chapter 19

1425 Words

Renewal Brix dragged his IV pole down the hallway until he reached Room 237. He felt like he was slogging his feet through mud. Lots and lots of mud. Waist high and thick. He hadn’t been able to eat a thing. Common sense told him it couldn’t be Samra, but his heart said to give it a chance. After the nurse had described the woman to him, he knew he had to see her for himself. His knock on the door got a soft “Come in!” Pushing it open, he tentatively walked into the room. The woman lying on the bed stared at him as tears started rolling down her cheeks. She didn’t say anything, but lifted her arms out to him. Brix collapsed on the side of the bed and gathered her into his embrace. For many long seconds they didn’t speak. It was enough to hold each other tightly and let the tears flow.
