SUMMER Saturday arrived with the particular bright energy of a day that has been planned for. I left the estate early — before breakfast, before anyone could offer to drive me or ask questions — and rode into town on Elara's bicycle with two missions. Mission one: find a birthday gift for a guy who had everything and expected nothing and would probably be delighted by a nice rock if it was given with the right energy.
