SUMMER We took the magic mushrooms with the last of the wine. The taste was — earthy. Slightly bitter. Not unpleasant. Maya had assured us the effects would take an hour to come on, which gave us time to get ready for sleep — wash our faces, brush our teeth, turn off the lights, arrange ourselves three across in my bed in a row, like sisters in an old photograph.
