The moment Kael’s body began to change, the forest stopped obeying reality.
Cracks of black-gold energy spread across his skin like a living scripture being written in reverse. His breath deepened. His shadow… no longer matched his movements.
Commander Veyros watched silently.
Even he was waiting.
The throne in the center of the shattered ground pulsed again—stronger this time. Each pulse sent waves of forgotten memories crashing into Kael’s mind.
A war without end.
A crown made of extinction.
A name the universe refused to speak.
Kael gritted his teeth.
“Stop… showing me things I never lived.”
Veyros answered calmly.
“You did live them.”
Kael’s eyes snapped toward him.
BOOM—
A wave of pressure exploded outward, flattening the forest for miles. Even the remaining hunters in the sky were forced back.
But Veyros did not move.
Instead, he slowly removed his cracked mask.
For the first time, Kael saw his face.
And froze.
Because it was familiar.
Not like a stranger…
But like a memory he had buried himself.
“…You,” Kael whispered.
Veyros smiled faintly.
“Yes.”
“I was there when you chose to erase yourself.”
Silence.
The chains in the sky began to tremble violently, as if reacting to emotion itself.
Veyros stepped closer to the broken throne.
“This is not your prison, Kael.”
He pointed at it.
“This is your seal anchor.”
Kael’s breath shook for the first time.
“…Anchor?”
Veyros nodded.
“If it breaks fully…”
The sky darkened completely.
“…you will remember everything.”
Kael stared at the throne.
Something inside him screamed to destroy it.
Something else…
wanted to sit on it.
Suddenly—
A massive roar echoed from beyond the mountains.
Not from wolves.
Not from hunters.
But from something older than both.
Veyros turned his head slightly.
“…They noticed.”
Kael tightened his fist.
“Who?”
Veyros answered softly.
“The ones who fear your return more than death itself.”
The sky cracked again.
And far above them—
three colossal silhouettes began descending.
Not angels.
Not demons.
But executioners of erased kings.
Veyros stepped back.
“This is where your real war begins.”
Kael looked up at the descending horrors…
…and smiled.
“…Good.”
