Hello readers, I wanted to wish you all a Happy Lunar New Year to all those celebrating and wishing you all good health and prosperity! I have been a bit busy lately and been feeling super overwhelmed by some of the things that have been happening in my life. I am currently having to seek a second opinion with another specialist about my condition, and I have received some bad news. The results I received were definitely worse than I had expected but I remain hopeful. I do hope you all enjoy this chapter and let me know!
Mia POV
A couple of months had passed, we had settled down well until Chase had woken us up in the middle of the night to say there were some rogues in the town. He was not sure how long they would be staying, but it seemed it would be better if we left in the middle of the night. We decided to quietly pack everything into the car. At this point, we were so glad that we had a garage, and it was beneficial that no one could see anything if they wanted to be nosey.
I had finally packed everything that I needed, and Chase loaded everything into the car. Lucy and I got inside the car. Chase quietly opened the garage door, got into the car, and started driving off. We kept a look out for anyone or potentially wolves following us. Not long after, we had left the town we had been living in, then we heard wolves howling in the wood. Chase started stepping on the accelerator pedal, making sure to put some distance between us and the wolves.
I knew I could not fall asleep and wanted to keep Chase company and let Lucy get some sleep. “Chase, do you think those wolves know we were here?” I asked Chase. “I hope not, I made sure our scents had changed so that they did not know we were here. It is probably better that the next town we stay at; we should change the car, but we will need to map out to bigger packs where we could seek temporary refuge.” Chase responded back to me. “Do you have any particular packs in mind that we should go to?” I said to Chase. “Well. I am not too sure, Mia, but we can find out some information about those packs later when we reach another destination. I think it will take us another 6 hours to reach another town I have seen on the map; this would put some great distance between the town we just left and the next one and it is not predictable. You should definitely get some sleep for now.” I nodded my head at Chase and decided to take a short nap.
It felt like a few hours when the car came to a stop. “Girls, time to wake up, we are making a pit stop to grab some food, freshen up ourselves and then continue our journey.” Chase said gently to Lucy and me and got out of the car. I rubbed my eyes and looked around our surroundings. I could see it was a petrol station with a diner. Chase was outside topping up some petrol whilst waiting for Lucy and I to wake up. Chase got back into the car after paying for the petrol and drove towards the diner car park. Once he had parked, we got out of the car and headed over to the diner.
We found ourselves a booth and sat down and a waitress brought over some menus for us. I decided to have a big breakfast and a large mug of coffee to have with my breakfast. Lucy had ordered pancakes with maple syrup, with a large cup of tea and Chase also opted for a big breakfast and a large mug of coffee. The waitress took our orders and then took the menu with her. We did not have to wait long until the food arrived, and we gladly scoffed down our food and were gladly drinking my large mug of coffee. Chase stiffened when the door had opened. We could smell that they were wolves. Chase flagged down the waitress for the bill, so we could leave quietly as we did not know if they were friendly or foes. They did not seem to be rogues, but Chase did not want to risk it. Lucy and I quickly went for a bathroom break before we got on the road as Chase paid for our bill. When we got back, Chase was waiting for us, and then we all left to head to the car. As we walked past, we could tell they were talking quietly, but we all had wolf hearing, all we heard was there was to be Alpha Summit at the Night Moon Pack.
We got into the car and quickly drove away from the diner, heading towards our destination. Night Moon Pack, it sounded familiar to me, but I could not remember where I had heard that pack’s name from. “Chase, who are the Night Moon Pack?” I asked. “Well, they are currently one of the biggest packs on this continent. I have heard that they do not treat strangers quite nicely though, but if there is an Alpha Summit being held there, it could potentially mean there is a bigger problem on the horizon for all the Alphas to be gathered.” Chase said. “I think we should look into this Night Moon Pack and potentially head towards there, that might be the safest bet I reckon” I said thoughtfully. Chase was quietly thinking until he said, “Alright, we could consider heading towards there, but it will take us weeks to get there as they are on the opposite side to us and, even though we should be on the move, we need to make sure we make some contingency plans.”
We finally reached our next destination. It had more of a village feel than a town feel. We felt it was best that we should only stay a couple of nights before moving to another town. I did not have a good feeling here; I could feel something bad was going to happen and did not know what would happen. We checked into a motel so that Chase could get some rest since he has not been able to get any sleep since we had to leave in the middle of the night.
A few hours later, there was a knock on the door. We woke up Chase and said someone had knocked. He got up and told us to hide out of sight. Chase went up to open the door and asked if he could help. “Could I help you gentlemen?” he said to the two strangers. They reeked of that rogue smell but also of alcohol. Wolves can not get drunk on alcohol, but they must have had some strong stuff to be drunk. “How about you give us the two little ladies you have with you; we saw you come in a few hours with them, and we have not seen them leave.” One of the rogues said to Chase. Without warning, Chase grabbed the one that had just spoken by the throat and slammed him against the wall. The other rogue wolf lashed out at Chase and caused Chase to bleed. Chase grabbed the one who had lashed out at him and was trying to fight the other wolf. As Chase was fighting the other wolf, the other wolf who escaped Chase’s grip, had walked inside the room, and was grinning at me and Lucy. I decided to step in front of Lucy so I could protect her. He started to come closer, and I got into a defensive stance. The wolf lunged towards me and within that split second, I saw an opening and did an uppercut to the wolf’s jaw. I then quickly proceeded to swing at the wolf’s face, making him stumble backwards. “You b***h! You will pay for that once I have you.” The other wolf spit at me, growling. I did not respond and continued to keep my eyes on him. In the corner of my eye, I saw the wolf had grabbed something and it was a knife. Whether it was laced with wolfsbane, I had absolutely no idea and was not intending to find out. Feeling the adrenaline rushing through my body, I did not want to give the other wolf the upper hand, I decided to go for his knees. He fell on to the floor and I kicked the knife out of the way and yelled, “Grab the knife, Lucy!” She did as she was told. I then started raining hard and fast blows to the wolf’s exposed ribs and I could hear I had injured his ribs. I then managed to wrap my legs around his head and decided to yank his head and try to cut off his blood supply. I finally managed to snap his neck. Chase had already snapped the other wolf’s head and was waiting to see if I needed to help, but he could see I was fine.
We dragged both the bodies in and decided against staying another night in this motel and deemed that the town was not safe. We decided to leave, and we told Lucy to bring the knife with us as we could use it as defence. As we were in the car, “You did well against that rogue Mia, but I am sure I have not taught you that.” Chase laughed as he said that. “I really do not know Chase; it just came to me so naturally. I mean when I was a kid, before I got captured, my parents used to train me and my twin brother Jason as soon as we could walk at the age of 3.” I responded back to Chase. “Well, I guess, now that I know what you are capable of, we may need to up your training sessions to keep you better protected.” He said to me. I nodded my head and decided to get some sleep for the remainder of the journey.
