OLIVIA The steady, mechanical hum of the underground ventilation system was the first sound that broke through the heavy fog of my exhaustion. A thick, dark wool blanket had been draped carefully over my bare shoulders during the night. The concrete floor of the panic room was unforgiving and bitterly cold, but the massive, warm body resting securely against my back offered an incredible shield against the freezing air.
