OLIVIA The Mediterranean sun beat down mercilessly on the estate gardens. I lay flat on a white lounge chair by the edge of the sprawling infinity pool, my eyes closed behind dark sunglasses. The sharp smell of chlorine mixed heavily with the sweet coconut scent of my sunscreen. I took a slow sip of ice water, letting the cold condensation drip down my fingers. I was desperately trying to burn the image of Bruno’s smug, arrogant smile out of my brain. A massive, broad shadow suddenly eclipsed the sun, plunging my face into cool darkness. I didn't need to open my eyes to know who it was. The heavy, intimidating scent of cedar and expensive tobacco rolled over me, instantly making the fine hairs on my arms stand up. "You are making a terrible mistake, Olivia." I lowered my sunglasses.
