7. The Impasse
The days went by torturously for Marina – bringing no news from her beau – while at the same time, she had to give a bloodless but very intense inner battle against every suspicion her mind was concocting.
That waiting period proved the bane of her psychological state, rendering her seriously unwell. On the one hand, she was enraged because she was feeling all the more that she been duped in the most indecent of ways and on the other, she felt something like an illusion which made her stick to the belief that the nightmare she was going through would soon end with the arrival of her beau.
Yet, her hopes for that last option were fast dissipating daily, as there was simply no evidence that would refute her suspicions.
