Chapter 9- Heart Ache

1104 Words
POV: Kyle, I sat at my desk, pen in hand, frustrated by the overflowing piles of pack work, most importantly, plans for upgrading the security in the dungeon. A prisoner broke out in a prison breach. It's a very odd situation. This prisoner was no different from any other thief. Who would be able to free him from a high-security prison if they were in communication with that nobody? I started to get lost in thought. I have my chief leading detective on the case to track him down. For now, I must focus on improving our current system. The guards responsible for the incident that night will surely be punished. I pull out of my thoughts at the sound of the doorknob opening. Chris and the gang burst through the door, covered in sweat and shirtless as if they had been working out. I looked closer to see their torsos coated in dirt.“ Running again, I see,” I said as they all sat down in a chair in my office.” Just some sparring practice for fun,” Michael said while slapping Jason on the back, making him wince from being slightly sore. “ Yeah, and Michael got his ass kicked,” Austin said mockingly while high-fiving Michael, laughing, and Jason rolled his eyes. “ Can you all shut up? Chris said, slightly moody. He had been weirdly quiet and reserved, which was unlike him; he was usually lively. “ He’s just mad that he lost to Theo,” Michael said jokingly. This surprised me. “ You lost to Theodore,” I said, looking at Chris, who only seemed to stare out the window angrily. Theodore suddenly interrupted, “Yes, he was oddly easy to beat today; I wouldn't even embarrass myself by calling it a win. It is an insult to call that pathetic display; he showed a fight.” Theodore said with a hint of anger in his voice. “ Chris,” I said, trying to get him to talk to me, but it only seemed to make him angrier. “Can you just listen to me?” I said while getting up to go over to him. He gets up before me and heads to the door. “Chris comes on,” The boys said pleadingly as he headed to open the door. “ Chris, stop, please,” I tried to stop him, “they're trying to find them as fast as they can, but for now, you don’t need to isolate yourself,” I said, trying to reason with him. He stops with his hands on the doorknob. He leans on the door, and shockingly, tears start to spill from his eyes.”You don’t know how much it hurts being apart from him,” he says, full-on sobbing at this point almost instinctively. He must be going through a mate pull. Every werewolf is affected differently when their mate is away from them. We feel the emotions of our wolves, and they tend to be strong. It seems his wolf is feeling extreme sadness and grief. My wolf felt an extreme sense of anger, but I had years of learning to control my anger, so it didn't hurt as much. But for Chris, he is feeling his emotions in full effect.” Hey Chris, it will be ok,” I said as I spun Chris around, holding him and comforting him. “ You’ll be just fine,” I said while gently patting his back. The others imitated me doing the same. “ What if we never find them? I think I will die from grief,” Chris said, being as dramatic as usual. “ This has gone on long enough,” Theo said, rolling his eyes and heading for the door. “ I’m going to check up on the search for your mate because I'm not gonna last another second of this,” Theo said, making his annoyance known. He wasn't the emotional type. Well, neither was Chris, but here we are. “ Don’t be an asshole,” Jason said with a look of disapproval to Theodore, to which he gave the same look back. I was about to tell them to shut up when I was hit with the most intense pain in my heart. I let go of Kyle and fell to the floor, clutching my chest. “ Are you ok? '' Chris asked worryingly while trying to steady me now that I was rolling in place. ‘’ No… I can’t breathe,” I managed to mutter. “ Call the pack doctor, hurry,” Austin says while pushing Theo out the door. “ What's wrong?” The boys asked, panicking. My wolf suddenly appeared, “ Our mate, she is kissing another male,” My wolf said in a pained, angry voice. “ Mate” is the only thing I can utter to my friends before I'm out cold. POV: Chris “How is he a doctor?” Michael asks while checking Kyle's heart rate for any abnormalities. “He’s fine,” the doctor sighs. “ It seems to be an effect of the mate bond; nothing I can really do. He just needs to rest for a while.’’ We all look at Kyle lying in bed, looking as if the moon goddess has come to collect him. “All this is caused because of the Mate bond.” Michael asks, still shocked by the ordeal.” Yeah, that's what love is going to get you... heartbroken and ten feet under,” Austin says, pretending to fake cry. “ Shut up, you i***t; the man is not dead, so don't go writing his death certificate,” Jason says, slapping Austin on the shoulder, which causes them to start arguing. Theo then ends the argument by slapping them both, which causes them to shut up for a second and then start arguing with each other. Honestly, I can't decide who fights more, Austin and Theo or Austin and Jason. “ Shut up, all of you,” I said, which got everyone's attention, even Michael, who was just trying to make Kyle comfortable on the bed. “ Listen, We need to find our mates. Kyle and I are both hugely affected by the bond, and it needs to stop. Kyle especially can not afford to be so weak, with him being an Alpha. I don’t know how but we need to find them NOW.” Everyone started looking at me, and as if they were reading each other's minds, they nodded in agreement. “Okay,... so does anyone have any ideas about where to start.”
