  His expression was incredulous as he asked her "Where did you come from?  Seriously, you're a mermaid??"   Ela shrugged, and said "You forgot.  We've met before."   Kane choked and sputtered.   "The Temple of Poseidon, years ago.  The dagger  cut your leg, and it set the  shark off, I recognized it.  Recognized you."   His shock was clear "You mean . . . that wasn't a dream?  That was you?  But . . "   She spread her hands.  "I am what I am.  And I knew then."   "What did you know then?"  He was confused now.   "That things would change.  That we would meet again."  Her serene confidence in that statement was bewildering.   "HOW?"   Kane interrupted "What do you mean at the temple of Poseidon?  Dane, you had the bends from that freedive!  You were hallucinating and your father swore you nearly died from it!"   "I'm not a myth.  I'm quite real."  She crossed her arms in front of her, giving Kane a dirty look.   "Obviously you are real.  I can't deny what's right in front of me, but where have you been for more than a decade?  Why reappear now?  How did you find me?"   "I didn't.  The tides of Fate brought us together.  Becaue it is time."   "Time for WHAT?"  Both men asked, expressions both reflecting shock and bewilderment at her certainty without explaining herself a bit, seemingly.
