Abstract: outwardly appearances are sometimes deceptive, its not always possible to make judgement about the real worth of a thing by its outer appearance. Many things made out of inferior materials are given a nice shine outside, in order to deceive the costumer. It becomes quite difficult to know what is contained inside this body. This outer shine hides the defect of this object. That is why it’s a famous saying that all that glitter is not gold. In life many individuals have fallen victim of following shinny things that do not last which will at last lead to danger, many crooks by their outward looks and behaviour make themselves appear to be gentle men and noble, but the reverse is the case. In the work of life one should learn the lesson that outward appearances may not always be the truth. We will relate this in a play where a young girl lost her life because she the shinny things that came her way.

(in a school environment at a suburban community center)

Act1 Scene1 (chioma is seen in the lecture hall talking withsome students at the back of the classroom, while waiting for the next lecturer to enter the hall)

Mrs kate enters………………..( the students immediately keeps quite and listens)

Mrs kate: good morning all!

All responds: good morning ma!

[she moves closer to the middle of the classroom to talk to them because there was no public address system]

Mrs kate: I have been appointed by the head of department to inform you all that there will be a board meeting that will last for three hours, in that case there will be no lectures for the next three hours.

Students: (cheerfully) thank you Ma! God bless you!

Chioma : (to Favour) Babe, don’t you think that now is the opportunity to go and see that ikenna of a guy. He has been calling and texting since morning, I think he has an important thing to tell me.

Favour: hmmm, this one he has been calling you like this, are you sure this guy is genuine, because the way I’m seeing him with all his money and flashy cars, there’s this part of me that doesn’t accept him oh. well I can see you are already falling for him. (turns her face away) the only thing ill tell you is to be very careful don’t believe everything he tells you.

Chioma : madam adviser! I have heard you oh, but I don’t understand why you don’t like Ikenna, is it because of his money, maybe being broke has made you loose your sense of knowing when to grab a golden opportunity, as for me nne I am going to grab it with my two hands and legs oh, I wont let this one slip by, don’t worry when I get the money I will surely remember you. Anyways I have heard what you said.[ chioma gets up dusts her butts and move towards the door. as she walks out favour crys to her in a loud voice]

Favour: better call me when you get there oh!

[still in the classroom, chidera is seen talking to obioma. Both looks at favour from a distance then come towards her]

Chidera: (ask favour) where is oma?

Favour: she went to see her boyfriend.

Chidera: at where?

Favour: I don’t know emethy, but I told her to call me when she gets there.

Chidera: okay oh, I hope she calls you, because these days very bad things are happening.

Obioma: My sister not that you said it oh, but bad things are really happening this days. Did you know that the police arrested one of the lecturers in the computer department for abusing and getting a student pregnant. Hmm wonders shall never end. Chioma should know that I really care about her and ill be very serious with her if only she accepts my proposal maybe because I don’t have money and flashy cars yet I just pray she sees the real me and accepts me and not going for flashy things. Those guys she is hanging out with might be fooling her.( to himself) God please protect her for me anywhere she is.

Act1 Scene 2 [ chioma is seen in a bar with Ikenna eating and drinking, she seems very happy and relaxed ](Ikenna holds chioma and says to her)

Ikenna: my love I am very sorry for keeping you waiting, it wont happen again.

Chioma: (smiles)its ok moreover I didn’t stand there for long.

Ikenna: ok my dear (raises his hand and signals the bartender for another drink).

Bartender: madam what else should I bring for you?

Chioma: (adjusts her seat) Emm you people have chicken?

Bartender: yes Ma. Roasted or fried?

Chioma: fried naa!

Bartender: very spicey or lightly spiced?

Chioma: just make it tasty that’s all.

Ikenna: oga just get her what she wants and stop asking all this questions.

[Exit Bartender]

(After a long day of enjoyment and fun, chioma got carried away by everything and followed Ikenna to his house, forgetting that following Ikenna to his house was not part of her plan but what can she do she only wanted more enjoyment and fun and of course more money)

Light fades……………..

Act2 Scene1 (at ikenna’s house, it is seen to be well furnished apartment).

Chioma: your house is very beautiful.

Ikenna: (smiles) thank you very much, why not come into my room and make yourself comfortable.

Chioma:(smiles sheepishly) okay.

[both of them enters the room and closes the door]lights fade……………

Two weeks had passed and neither favour nor chidera has had from chioma,

[at favours house, favour is seen with chidera, both seemed worried abouttheir friend]

Chidera: who know why chioma has refused to take our calls,has she gotten herself into trouble?

Favour: please just be positive, I hope nothing has happened to her oh

‘‘favours phone rings’’

Favour: dera its chioma!

Chidera: pick up na!

Favour picks the call and chioma tells her and chodera to come to one st joseph,s hospital located at the center of a community. As soon as she drops the call they moved straight to the hospital.

OAct2 Scene 2 (in the hospital mr and mrs azunna is seen sitting at the right side of the hospital bed, mrs azunna is seen crying and muttering audible words to herself, chioma is also seen standing and gazing at the doctor like she was about to say something)

[favour and chidera enters]

Favour: chioma where have you been?

Chioma: (turns and sees obioma)what is he doing here?

Favour: he saw us running to the hospital, we told him you called and he decided to follow us

(chidera moves towards mrs azunna and says)

Chidera: is anything the matter, why are you crying?

Mrs Azunna:(wipes her face) ask your friend.

Mr Azunna: doctor please tell us what you told chioma again

Doctor: (clears throat) I’m sorry sir, but you’re here is two weeks pregnant and also HIV positive.

(in shock, favour and chidera turns towards chioma).

Chidera: oma is this true?

Tears rolls down chioma’s eyes as she began to say

Chioma: its true, I was warned but I didn’t listen, I should have listened to my parents and even favour, I was blinded by the flashy things Ikenna brought my way(pauses) I was too focused on getting money and goodies from him not knowing I was getting into a trap. Ikenna was not who he said he was, the car that he carried me with was not even his own car (holds her chest and cries bitterly). I fell foe his lies and now look at what I got myself into. I’m sorry for disappointing you all. I hope none of you make the same mistakes I have made. My life has been ruined by someone I thought was God sent, now I have seen that not everything that glitters is gold.
