Chapter 7

1532 Words
Later that day, when she was back home, the ring on her finger had her parents completely freaked out. Mom and Dad were really disappointed with her. They couldn't believe that she would keep her 'boyfriend' a secret from them, let alone get secretly engaged. She couldn't blame them. Obviously, they had expected her to introduce them to her 'boyfriend' like every normal girl does. Only if she had that liberty! Mom had been giving her the silent treatment since then while Dad looked upset, and she wanted nothing more than to kick that obnoxious jerk's ass. He was making her suffer. After a complete week, Dad had convinced Mom to accept her decision and meet them. So she called Tyron , and that led to this dinner at the Harringtons . She took a warm shower and blow-dried her hair. Though Mom was still not over it, she came to her room and helped her choose a dress for the dinner. She looked into the mirror to see the mint blue dress fitting her like a glove while she did her makeup. The worry of having her parents learn about the agreement had her unnerved. Besides that, she had been avoiding speaking of her engagement with Noah and Olivia, but she knew she had to tell them soon. Yeah, Noah was another very close friend of hers. He and Olivia dated in middle school when they were basically kids. They got over it pretty well, and since then, the three of them had been best friends. She came down to the living room where Mom and Dad were already waiting. "Oh, you look gorgeous, honey!" Her Mom complimented her. "You look beautiful as well," she smiled. "Let's get going," Dad said, checking his watch. Let's get done with this dinner! "Mr. Adams, Mrs. Adams, good evening!" What she assumed was Mr. Harrington greeted Dad and Mom before sending her a smile of acknowledgment, which she returned. He seemed to be in his late fifties. "Good evening, Mr. Harrington" Dad offered a polite smile. "Call me Charles." Dad nodded. Just then, a tall woman in her mid-fifties walked in with a bright smile. It felt like the grace in her posture and presence could put all to shame. "Meet my wife, Leah." She smiled, showing her perfect set of pearly white teeth. The formalities were still going on when Treasy took her time to look around. With the intricate design and the showpieces, every corner of the mansion screamed luxury. "And you're Treasy." She was pulled back into the conversation when Leah stated. Treasy politely nodded with a smile in response. "You, my dear, are beautiful!" She couldn't help the blush that crept up her face. "Thank you for having us here, Mrs. Harrington," she replied, causing Leah to smile at her. "Come in." Leah showed them the way into the living space. There were some small talks here and there amidst which Leah kept glancing at the door, most probably waiting for Tyron. Treasy was in her own thoughts, playing with her fingers when she heard some footsteps. "Tyron." All their eyes followed Ruby's and landed on the one and only Tyron Harrington. What Treasy didn't expect was the way he was looking at her, but then she remembered it was all about their little drama. Trying her best to ignore him, she looked at Aby' who was smiling widely at her. "Treasy!" Leaving her father's side, Aby started running in Treasy's direction. Upon reaching her, Aby put both of her hands on Treasy's lap and smiled goofily. Her smile was so irresistible that even Treasy kept smiling broadly "Hey sweetheart!" Treasy picked her up and placed her on her lap. "It seems that Aby already knows Treasy." Leah looked at Treasy's mom, who was smiling at Aby with adoration. "Yes. Treasy is my friend. Right, Treasy?" Aby looked at Treasy's face for a response. "Right, sweetie." Treasy tapped her nose, causing her to giggle. "It seems you like her," Leah said, smiling. "I do." Aby bobbed her head up and down, emphasizing her statement.Treasy had to control her urge to squeeze her cheeks "Do you know why she's here?" Leah pressed her lips together, slightly skeptical of Aby's reaction. Aby shook her head from side to side. "Yes, sweetheart. Your father is getting married to Treasy." Treasy's gaze was solely trained on Aby. Liking someone is one thing, but having a person married to your father is a completely different matter. "Really?" Aby looked at Treasy, her eyes filled with hope and excitement. "Really." Aby grinned and turned around to hug Treasy. Looking up, Treasy saw Tyron looking at her with a cold, calculating gaze, like he was trying to study her. She wouldn't lie and say she didn't feel intimidated by his stare. "Can I take you to my room here?" Aby tugged at Treasy's hand, successfully bringing her attention back. "Sure, let's go!" Aby clapped in excitement and pulled Treasy up. Excusing themselves from everyone, they went up, or more like Aby dragged Treasy to her room. --- Treasy's mother, Emma, had a tall frame but a much softer gaze, unlike her husband. Her calculating stare directed towards Tyron did very little to hide her sickness, which was visible through the dark patches under her eyes. Tyron pushed away the slightest guilt that was knocking at hisface about using Emma's sickness as a threat. He convinced himself that he was doing Treasy a favor, for she couldn't have afforded the best treatment for her mom had Tyron not made her sign this contract. Tyron shook hands with them before returning his gaze to Treasy. She passed him a fake smile, and he smiled back. His eyes did a quick take on her outfit. Undoubtedly, she looked gorgeous in the plum dress. Tyron forced his eyes away before the stare would become too obvious. As soon as Aby noticed Treasy, she squealed and sprinted from Tyron's side towards her. Treasy flashed a big smile, picked her up, and placed her on her lap. She kept talking animatedly with Aby while she giggled at Treasy's antics. "Yes, you're right," Treasy agreed to something Aby had said as they descended the stairs before letting out a small giggle. Her giggle sounded so pure and sweet— Tyron rolled his eyes at his chain of thoughts before standing up and making his way towards them. He placed his hand around Treasy's waist and kissed her cheek. "Hey, can we go outside and talk?" Treasy looked startled for a second before composing herself. "Sure." The fake smile was back on her face. She followed Tyron outside to the garden. "What did you have to say?" Tyron's eyes followed the movement of her hand as it went to push her hair behind her shoulder. "You were not supposed to speak of this agreement to anyone." Tyron kept his voice low, careful enough that they didn't have ears on them. "And I didn't." She folded her arms across her chest. "Stop lying," he gritted. "What's your problem? I didn't say anything to anyone," she semi-yelled. "Then why was your father looking at me like that?" "Like what?" "He was giving me that hard look. He doesn't look impressed." Her eyebrows rose on their accord before the corner of her lips curved up in a smile. "Oh! That's because my dad is smart." She ended with a small shrug. Tyron raised a brow at her questioningly. "What? Why are you so conceited? Not everyone has to like you. Chill." She unfolded her arms and mockingly smiled at him. "Come inside once you get over yourself." Saying this, she gracefully carried herself inside the house. Tyron rubbed his chin in annoyance before thrusting his hands back in his pockets and following her inside. The dinner went with the parents talking about a lot of things and them stealing occasional measuring glances at each other. By the end of the dinner, their wedding was fixed for the end of the next month. This sudden need to marry meant that Tyron had to let someone into his life, and this was making him feel more irritated than ever. "I am so happy right now, I will have another daughter soon." Tyron's mom looked so taken by Treasy. "Thank you, Mrs. Harrington." That smile never left Treasy's face. "Mrs. Harrington sounds old. Call me Mom or Leah." Tyron was unable to understand how easily his mom had accepted Treasy within such a short span of time. Not that it mattered. In a year, she would be out of their lives for good. "Okay." Treasy softly smiled back. "We will take your leave now." The hard look on Roger's face was now replaced by a warm smile. "It was lovely meeting you, Leah." Emma gave Tyron's mom's hand a gentle squeeze. "Oh, the pleasure was all mine." Tyron's mom smiled back. "Bye, Aby!" Treasy bent down and kissed her on her cheek. "Bye, Treasy!" Aby briefly hugged her. Treasy stood up and looked at Tyron for a second before turning to leave. Tyron's hand unconsciously grazed the ring on Treasy's fingers
