I stared out of the window as he drove out of the church with about three other cars following suit. I thought the worst had happened when my mom died but getting married at such an age was never part of the plan. “I love her and I don’t mind spending a fortune for her to be mine” I remember dawson’s words when he was talking to my granny. Maybe he’s not as bad as I thought, I can just give him a chance. “Welcome to my home my lady” Dawson announced as we pulled into the parking lot of a huge mansion. My eyes were fixed on the grand mansion. I immediately fell out of place like I don’t belong here. My cheeks flushed as I realized I was still in my wedding dress. I’ve never been to a place like this. To crown it all this was my new home. Just a few days ago I met this man, to sign the marriage certificate, then to church and now to move into his mansion. Everything still feels like a dream. A bad dream I wish to wake up from. “Follow me let me introduce you to everyone” Dawson jumbled my thoughts as he pulled me to the entrance. I couldn’t shake the feelings that I didn’t belong here. That I was just a pawn playing dress up in a world that isn’t mine. “Welcome home” A blonde girl in her late twenties beamed at me as if she had been expecting me. I smiled in return as I hovered around the sitting room as Dawson gave instructions to the girl whom I learnt her name is Aria to call the rest of the servants. “Aria, this is my wife,” he said while turning to look at me. I bristled at the word ‘wife’ Just then the other servants emerged from their rooms. After meeting with them all, Aria was appointed to me as my personal maid in his words “Aria will take care of you”. “I have a business trip to attend in Spain, take care of her,” Dawson announced, facing Aria. Just then it dawned on me that I was spending my supposed wedding night alone. “We just got married” I exclaimed, suddenly feeling anxious being alone with strangers. He smiled “I won’t be long my angel, When I come back home our honeymoon begins, I promise to get you all the best things in Spain, Trust me when I say it wasn’t within my control, but I promise to make it up to you” I stood there watching him leave as he blew me a kiss. I think I’ve gotten accustomed to his company, and hated the fate I have to deal with new people. I caught a glimpse of a portrait of him and another person who looks like a younger version of him as I was led upstairs to my room. He looks familiar but I couldn’t place my finger on where I’ve seen him before, probably it’s the resemblance I assumed as I brushed it off my mind. Aria led me to my bedroom. My eyes widened as I stepped into my new room. I had never seen anything like it before. The room was enormous, with high ceilings and large windows that let in a flood of sunlight. I walked slowly, My feet sinking into the plush floor. The bed was a majestic four-poster, with a canopy of silk and velvet. My fingers trailed over the intricate carvings on the wooden posts. “This...this is a palace”. I stuttered as I admired my room, with Aria chuckling behind me. “I’ll run you a bath and prepare your dinner” Aria smiled softly. “Does he live alone in this huge house?” I asked her as she made to leave just as my mind flashed back to the portrait, the image still lingered in my head which made me try to figure out where I'd seen the other person from. “Sir Wilson will be back soon, You will meet him, He’s lord’s brother” She replied looking a little too happy as she mentioned the name. I waved her off as I walked away to the closet to take off my wedding dress. ****************************************************** “You’re so lucky Claire” Aria said beside me as I ate my dinner silently. She’s been all over me since I got here. Treating me like her younger sister, I felt a little bit of warmth inside me because I’ve always been the elder sister with no one to baby me since I lost my mother. “Thank you…” I said as I smiled back at her. “I know you still feel uncomfortable, but lord Dawson is a good man, he will take care of you, he has been taking care of my family for over three years now” just like that she went into memory line telling me all I needed to know about her, how he saved her dying mother and all. I wish I was as fortunate as her to have my mother saved, maybe I would be in the movie theater by now. “But you should be careful with Wilson, He’s full of mischief”. She whispered to my ears as if there was anyone else listening to our conversation. “You need to be wise as an owl in dealing with him, even lord Dawson is scared of him” She said, moving her eyes around to see if anyone was hearing her speak. Just few minutes she was happy talking about him and now she was making it look like a different person. “Why will Lord Dawson be scared of him though” I thought to myself. The conversation left me worried all day long, even as I tried to unwind from it and watch a movie. When is he coming home? Why is his elder brother scared of him?Who is he? All these rhetorical questions worried me. “Observe everything around you, you must always be one step ahead” Granny words echoed in my head. I remember the look in her eyes which was a reminder to be strong, to be brave. I wasn’t going to let anyone disrupt my peace in my husband’s house. So I thought until a knock came through my door. I sighed deeply as I knew it would be Aria. Opening it, My heart skipped a beat. My mind struggled to process what I was seeing. My thoughts tangled in a mix of emotions. Standing face to face with my supposed client from DAISY’S HOME OF LOVE now brother inlaw. “You..” He said with a low but yet hoarse voice sending chills down my spine.
