Chapter 22: Contact It was late Friday afternoon, November 24, and still the Great Thanksgiving Storm had not let up. The freezing wind and blinding snow made it hard to see, but Jerusha’s eyes had not deceived her. A little girl was in this car, and the color of her skin indicated that she was likely hypothermic. The wind was tearing at Jerusha, and she clutched the thin blanket tighter around her shoulders. She knew that she had to get out of the storm, so she tried to open the car door, but it was jammed. She jerked at it a few times and then slowly made her way around to the driver’s side and pulled at the back door. It opened, and Jerusha crawled inside.
