Chapter Six: Clingy

258 Words
After the airport, he didn’t want to let go of Vivian’s hand. Even in the taxi, he held her hand tightly while her cardboard sign rested on his lap. “Vivian, can I see you tomorrow?” he asked, his eyes never leaving her face. She nodded, her heart beating so loudly that she was sure the taxi driver could hear it. The next day, he called five times before noon. Not because he didn’t trust her, but because he already missed her voice. Gifty laughed at her. “Girl, pick it. Your husband is calling again.” When he finally saw her, he hugged her like he hadn’t seen her in years. Right there at the junction near her house, where everyone could see. Vivian was shy. “People are looking,” she whispered. “Let them look,” he said. “Let them know you’re important to me.” Later, they sat on a low wall. “I don’t like this,” he whispered. “I don’t like it when you’re not near me. When you’re not around, I can’t think straight. I check my phone every minute.” Vivian looked at him. This was the boy thousands of girls had crushes on, and he was acting like a little boy because of her. “What if I go to school tomorrow? I’ll be in class the entire day,” she said. “Then I’ll wait at your gate until you close. I don’t care.” He was clingy, and she was starting to like it.
