Chapter Seven: His Favorite Place

247 Words
He started taking Vivian everywhere. He took her to his small studio, where he edited his dances. The room was small, with one light, one mirror, and clothes scattered across the floor. But to him, it was his world. And now he wanted her in it. He would make her sit on his chair while he sat on the floor with his head resting on her lap. She would play with his hair, and he would close his eyes. “You make me dance better,” he told her. “When you’re here, I don’t get tired. When you’re here, I remember all the steps.” He was always finding little ways to stay close to her—holding her hand, fixing her braids, or pulling her back whenever she tried to stand up and get water. One afternoon, his friends came to the studio and saw Vivian. They started teasing him. “Ah, so this is the reason you don’t reply to our messages anymore?” He didn’t laugh. He stood up and held Vivian’s hand. “Yes. She’s the reason. And don’t ever disturb her.” He was serious. Vivian’s stomach did a flip. When his friends left, he turned to her. “Sorry. Did I embarrass you?” Vivian shook her head. “No.” He smiled and sat back on the floor, resting his head on her lap again. “Good. Because I want everybody to know. You are my favorite place.”
