My brother walked into the room slowly with my parents behind him. I tried to fix myself up but couldn't help crying even harder. My mom, Andrea, ran forward and hugged me tightly, trying her best to comfort me, I nuzzled into her because in her arms I felt safe. Then I remembered the actual reason they had come into the room in the first place.
My dad was the first person to speak " Nina, you weren't meant to find out like this" his voice broke softly as he continued "We were going to tell after your birthday party but we weren't prepared enough to see you like this, but we knew it was something that we had to do." then my mom spoke "Darling nothing is ever going to change the way we treat you."
During all this commotion there is one question that I have been very curious about if they knew from the beginning or they recently found out. So after muffling my sobs I asked "How long have you guys known?" There was a silence then my dad spoke up"Since the beginning." Then the tears I barely managed to stop began once more, through the tears I spoke "Why d-didn't you tell me?"
Then they told me all about how they had a daughter, Stella, after Leo but due to the power struggles in their company she had been kidn*pped by a distant relative because he needed more shares and he tried to squeeze it out of my parents. But before they knew it the relative fled abroad with Stella without leaving a trace behind and my parents have been searching without a lead for 16 years. They adopted me as a way to deal with the grief of losing a child.
After hearing their story instead of feeling sad about the lie I had been living, I felt guilty about Stella's situation and about how I had been living her life while she was probably busy suffering wherever she was. I knew it wasn't my fault but I couldn't help feeling guilty.
My parents assured me repeatedly that they would love me the same and after a while, I felt sleepy and I slept in the arms of my mom.
