Unconventional Love

Chapter 4

My mom called out to her and asked with tear-filled eyes"Why are you leaving?", Emily turned to her and answered, "You already have a daughter and I just came to fulfill my parents' dying wish." I, who had been quiet all through this conversation spoke up "I'm just adopted I have no right to take your position, and besides I could really use a sister." Emily looked at me with a shocked expression then it looked like she was trying to find out my real purpose before she sat back down.

‎ I quickly rushed to explain that I sincerely had nothing against her and I really wanted her to be part of my parents' lives. Emily later decided to stay with us for a while to decide whether she wanted us to be her family or to go back to her normal life. My parents were so happy they burst into tears and promised to hold a welcome banquet but Emily had them postpone it until she fully decided to stay with us.

‎ My dad, Alex, agreed immediately because even though he didn't want to admit it he was scared that she was going to leave them again.

‎ Right then my brother walked through the door calm and composed and when he saw Emily he stretched out his hand and gave her a firm handshake because he knew that it would take some time for them to bond and he was willing to respect that.

‎ Leo excused himself along with Emily and the housekeeper to find out her preferences and to prepare her room and food according to her choices because he knew that Mom and Dad weren't in the right state of mind to do that.

‎ After Leo graduated from high school my parents sent him halfway across the world to study abroad. The night before there was a huge fight between my parents and Leo. After Leo travelled my mom constantly missed him even though she couldn't say it we could all tell because there were a lot of signs like whenever she walked past his bedroom she would let out a long sigh and another night I heard her crying in the living room. But whenever I asked her why they made him study abroad she only gave one answer "It was for his own good."

‎ Last year Leo finished his course and came back home but he didn't move back with us instead he stayed across the city in a large condo but he did come to visit twice a month.

‎ After Emily got settled in, Leo asked to have a word with my parents although I couldn't join the talk I still decided to eavesdrop because I thought they were discussing making me move out or study abroad too. But when I got there I heard my brother say that he couldn't take it anymore that sending him abroad and making him move out couldn't change what he felt and he told them that they should give him their blessings because he knew that his feelings were permanent then he grabbed his coat and stormed out then my mom started crying while my dad tried to comfort her

‎ I sneaked back upstairs and thought about what I just heard. My brother had someone that he loved but my parents didn't allow it who could this person be?
