Pushing myself up on weak arms, I blinked hard into the dark room to peer through the gloom. There were no lights on anywhere, and I flopped forward to rub my eyes with a strained yawn. My body ached and sweat had dried on my skin to leave me feeling crusty and dirty, and I dragged my palms down my face to suck in a loud breath through my clogged nose.
“You’re awake…” The rasping call made me jump, and I twisted around wildly until a soft lamp light flickered to life to my far left. Shadows played across Richard’s face as I squinted, and he walked over to me to sit on the edge of the bed. Pulling the sheet up to cover my breasts, he let out a little huff and smirked slightly as I frantically tried to think of something to say.
