unexpected warmth

Victoria was seething with anger as she marched towards the Awakening Courtyard. She was determined to get her hands on the most important possession of the princess, the hairpin. She had inherited the body of the princess and felt it was her duty to take care of her belongings. The guards and servants could feel the heat emanating from Victoria's anger, but none of them dared to stop her. They had been ordered by Kurt to let her do whatever she wanted, but they didn't expect her to barge into Charles's courtyard. As she walked into the courtyard, the guards were left stunned by her audacity. But they knew their orders didn't extend beyond the entrance, so they let her go. Kurt was stationed deep within the courtyard when he saw Victoria marching towards the study. He was momentarily stunned but quickly regained his composure and stepped in front of her, blocking her path. He held his sword unsheathed, three steps away from her. Victoria smiled, and Kurt couldn't help but feel his heart skip a beat. The golden rays of the morning sun illuminated her flawless skin, making her look even more beautiful. The enigmatic smile on her face made Kurt's nerves jittery. He wasn't sure whether she was mocking, disdainful, or just being brazen. The atmosphere in the hallway was tense, as the Seventh Princess of Little Venice, Victoria, confronted Kurt, the guard at the door of the War King's study. Victoria was not one to be intimidated, and Kurt knew that all too well. When he warned her to go back, the princess had a sharp retort ready. As she stood her ground, Kurt couldn't help but feel a little unnerved. But Victoria was not finished. With a sly smile, she declared her intention to meet the War King himself. The words were like a thunderbolt, shattering the quiet of the hallway. Kurt was stunned, but he knew better than to argue with the princess. He hesitated for a moment, wondering what to do. But then something strange happened. The War King did not refuse Victoria's request. Instead, there was silence from behind the study's door. Kurt knew that this meant that the king had granted Victoria an audience. His heart raced as he realized the full implications of this turn of events. Without missing a beat, Victoria strode confidently towards the door of the study. She didn't bother knocking - she simply pushed the door open and walked right in. Kurt could hardly believe his eyes. He had never seen anyone act so audaciously in front of the War King. As he watched Victoria disappear into the study, Kurt couldn't help but feel a little envious of her courage. But he also knew that the princess was playing a dangerous game. If the War King didn't like what he heard, there was no telling what he might do. But for now, all Kurt could do was wait and hope that Victoria's diplomatic mission would be successful. Victoria stormed through the courtyard, her mind consumed with rage. She had several plans in mind for when she finally confronted Charles in his study. Should she scream and shout? Should she beg and plead? Or should she try to reason with him? She never expected to feel her heart race when she came face to face with him. The last time she saw him, he was a mystery, a man shrouded in black. But now, dressed in a bright blue robe, he looked more approachable, more human. But this was his personal study, his inner sanctum. Victoria felt her composure slipping away. As Charles looked down at her, his face unreadable, Victoria felt her cheeks flush with embarrassment. She tried to be honest, to tell him why she had come, but she couldn't help but feel vulnerable in his presence. Charles noticed her eyes, mischievous and angry just moments before, now look like they were holding back tears. It was as if they were hiding something, as if there was more to her than what she was letting on. Despite everything, he couldn't help but feel drawn to her. As they stood there, in that small room, the tension between them was palpable. There was something unspoken, something that neither of them could deny. The moment Victoria stepped into the room, Charles felt his heart race with an unusual speed. Her aura was one he had never experienced before. It was as if she carried a secret that could turn his world upside down. He tried to hide his emotions and maintain his composure, but it was tough. When their eyes met, he noticed a sudden change in her demeanor. Her entire body language transformed from nervousness to calmness, as if she had found solace in his gaze. Charles was perplexed. He wondered what magic she held to have such an effect on him. Initially, he had planned to throw her out, but the thought of her leaving filled him with an unexplainable sadness. If he allowed her to stay, he could discover the mystery she was hiding. He told her nonchalantly, “That trinket? I threw it away.” Victoria's face turned red with anger, and her blood pressure shot up. How could he have the audacity to throw away her belongings? In her previous life, she would have given him a piece of her mind, but now, she only managed to give a polite smile and said, “Thank you, Your Highness, for letting me know. I will take my leave now.” Victoria knew that if she dared to argue with Charles, who was known for his merciless nature, it could prove fatal. So, she left without waiting for any further response, her heart aching with disappointment. As she walked away, Charles watched her through the window with a stoic expression, realizing that he had let something special slip away from him. An hour passed before Kurt entered the study, his footsteps echoing on the polished floor. His voice, low and hushed, broke the silence. "Your Highness, Princess Victoria has returned to the palace." Charles tilted his head, his gaze fixed on the fire dancing in the hearth. His mind raced, considering the possibilities of this encounter. He had a reputation for being a provocative man, always looking for a way to test people's true colors. Kurt's curiosity got the better of him. He wondered if the king was purposely pushing Victoria's buttons. Charles had a theory - when people were angry, they lost control and revealed their true nature. It was easier to read them. Those who could control their emotions were harder to decipher. Charles remained silent, his thoughts churning. In his experience, Victoria was not a simple girl. She was confident, and her self-assuredness was something that he found intriguing. She was not afraid of him, and that piqued his interest even more. Cancel Charles's reputation as the War King was well-known, and Victoria had heard of his impressive accomplishments on the battlefield. When Jason began to talk about the king's marital status, Victoria found it odd that he was discussing such a personal matter with her. She couldn't understand why he would tell her about the king's unmarried status, especially since it had nothing to do with their conversation. As they walked, Jason stumbled over his words, trying to explain the king's situation. Suddenly, Victoria noticed a figure following them and realized that it was one of the king's guards. She wondered why Charles would send someone to watch her, despite her assurance that she wouldn't do anything to cause trouble. When Jason finally clarified that Charles was unmarried because he had not yet found someone he loved, Victoria was surprised. She couldn't help but feel sympathy for the king, imagining how lonely he must be without a companion to share his triumphs with. Despite her initial annoyance at Jason's strange conversation, Victoria found herself lost in thought, wondering about the War King and the sacrifices he must make for the empire. The woman was taken aback and saddened by the fact that a powerful, well-connected, and handsome man like Charles was not married at the age of twenty-three. She couldn't comprehend how someone with such outstanding battle achievements could be single. Suddenly, Jason, who was walking with her, stopped in his tracks, as he noticed someone following them out of the corner of his eye. Jason suspected that it could be one of the king's guards. Victoria had mentioned that Charles wouldn't interfere with her, but the thought of being monitored was humiliating. Jason tried to clarify his thoughts and said, "I didn't mean it that way. The king..." Victoria gestured for him to stop and interrupted him, "Don't tell me that it's because he's mentally ill." Jason was horrified and didn't want to worsen the situation. He gritted his teeth and said, "Princess, many people have harmed the king before. If you hold him in such high regard, I hope you'll come to your senses before you become one of them." Victoria was taken aback, and her forehead creased in confusion. She was uncertain of how to react to this sudden conversation. To add to her annoyance, she added, "What makes you think I like him?" Jason was baffled and didn't know how to respond. He had witnessed her astonished expression, and it appeared as if her soul had left her body momentarily. She rolled her eyes and continued, "I don't like him. Besides, he is far above my status. I am not prestigious enough for him. So, let's put an end to this discussion." She was irritated by Jason's comments as he barely knew her. She had no affection for Charles, and the idea of being with him had crossed her mind solely to gain protection. However, learning about his past had given her an alternate method to acquire his protection.
