"Good. And Dmitri? I want to say thank you. For taking care of this, for taking care of them today, while I was out injured. I know I don't say it enough, but I appreciate everything you do."
I nearly dropped the phone out of shock.
In fifteen years, Xenois Kingston had never thanked me for anything. It was understood that I did my job well, and he paid me extremely well in return. That was it. Gratitude was not part of our professional relationship.
"You're welcome, sir," I managed to say, forcing the lump down my throat. I believed I had an idea of how Celeste might be feeling.
After hanging up the phone and pocketing it in my jeans, I found Sophia coming out from the elevator, apparently she had gone up to inspect her accommodations.
