chapter five

Chapter five I was at my favorite cafe. It was a small, calm space where I could read and listen to music for 20 minutes before work. And I really needed some music and coffee right now. I just didn't expect to find a musician sitting there. He was one of the closest things the people below had to famous; Marcus Walter. Marcus never sold out on any concerts because he never did do official concerts. He wasn't rich enough to have the equipment for that. It was always just him and his guitar, traveling the surface and singing whatever came to mind. Most people don't even know Marcus’s name. But the moment you mention that traveling guitar player everyone knew who you were talking about. I wanted to scream in excitement as I got to meet Marcus first hand. But I kept quiet. “Hey,” he spoke to me and pushed his long hair out of his face, “I recently came to a road block for things to sing about. And I was hoping maybe you could help me out.” “Well, I don't know much about music-” I started fiddling with my hair. “It doesn't matter. Just, how are you feeling today?” “Well, I'm feeling pretty bad about myself if I'm being honest. There's this girl at work that I'm pretty sure I really really like. But me and her are so different.” Marcus looked at me. “Well, you know what they say. You miss a hundred percent of the shots you don't take.” I leaned back in my chair “well-” Before I even knew what was going on, Imarcus started playing his guitar and I was accidentally a star in a duet with him. Me: I don't even know what I would say if I wanted to. Marcus: Don't overthink it, just do you Me: If I were you, maybe that would be true I took a long look at his handsome face. Despite everything he seemed to have everything figured out. A good music career, not quite famous but still pretty well known. Heck, why would he even ask someone like me to help him? someone so boring, so normal I could never get a girl like Sarah? Marcus: What if you try to talk all smart? Me: And only dumb comes out? No thanks. Just a pretty face like that's the only thing I'm about. I sighed, but then I did something so profound. Despite the small group of onlookers here, I jumped up on a table. And Marcus jumped up with me. Marcus: oh, there's way more to you Me: Oh, I hope that's true Can't help but wonder if I'm good enough I just don't think that I am good enough She don't even see me And she's way out of my league So stop talking crazy Marcus: There's just no way that you're not good enough Don't let 'em tell you you're not good enough A little weird is a good thing You were made just how you should be Good enough, more than good enough I wish you could see how amazing you are Just gotta be you don't tear yourself apart I wanna see myself like you do Just gotta own it, girl, it's so true The only way you could go wrong is if you doubt yourself Confidence is everything, don't need to be someone else Me: it's So easy for you Marcus: Meh, that's true. I let out a small gasp as Marcus grabbed my hand and spun me around in a circle. Me: I can't help but wonder if I'm good enough I just don't think that I am good enough She don't even see me She's way out of my league So stop talking crazy Marcus: There's just no way that you're not good enough Don't let 'em tell you you're not good enough A little weird is a good thing You know you're just how you should be Good enough, more than good enough Trust me, I know you're afraid Be who you are, who cares what they say And you'll be alright Just show 'em your light Get out of your own way You've got no reason to doubt You are so beautiful inside and out You'll be alright Just show 'em your light Me: I can't help but wonder if I'm good enough I just don't think that I am good enough She don't even see me She's way out of my league Stop talking crazy Marcus: There's no way you're not good enough Me:Do you really think that I am good enough? Marcus: If you're having trouble believing You were made just how you should be Good enough, more than good enough When the song ended, I got off the table. My limbs were trembling as I got down. My body was shaking. And even though I didn't even know what time it was, I knew one thing for sure. I needed to run. And so, I downed the last of my coffee, but on my headphones, and ran as fast as I possibly could to work.
