Chapter 3: The Disease As Ethan arrives at the morning ceremony, the sky is painted in a mesmerizing display of soft pastel hues. Shades of lavender and pink blend seamlessly with streaks of orange and gold, transforming the horizon into a canvas of ethereal beauty. Amidst this breathtaking backdrop, Ethan's mother, a striking figure with flowing chestnut hair, glides towards him. Her eyes, the color of deep emerald, sparkle with a mix of wisdom and warmth. Her presence exudes a sense of grace and strength, as she walks with a dignified poise. Ethan's mother's name is Aria. She is a respected member of the pack, known for her unwavering dedication to the pack's traditions and her nurturing spirit. As she stands next to Ethan, a gentle smile graces her lips, and a sense of pride emanates from her. Aria's attire reflects the natural colors of the forest, a reflection of her connection to the wilderness. She wears a flowing gown in shades of earthy greens and browns, adorned with intricate leaf patterns. Around her neck, she wears a pendant made of polished moonstone, symbolizing her affinity with the moon and its mystical energies. As Ethan feels his mother's comforting presence beside him, he draws strength and reassurance from her unwavering support. Together, they stand side by side, ready to partake in the morning ceremony and embrace the peace and unity it brings to their pack The morning ceremony is a breathtaking display of beauty, tranquility, and unity among the werewolf pack. As the first rays of dawn break through the horizon, casting a golden glow across the dense forest, the werewolves gather in a sacred clearing. The air is crisp, carrying the scent of dew-kissed leaves and wildflowers. The ceremony begins with a gentle chant, the pack's voices harmonizing in a melodic rhythm that resonates with the surrounding nature. Each werewolf stands tall and proud, their eyes closed, and their hearts open, as they connect with the ancient spirits that watch over them. In a graceful and synchronized motion, the pack members extend their hands towards the sky, palms upturned, as if reaching out to embrace the very essence of the morning. They bask in the warmth of the sun's first light, allowing its gentle touch to wash over them, infusing them with a sense of renewal and vitality. As the chant reaches its crescendo, the werewolves lower their hands, bringing them to their hearts in a gesture of gratitude and unity. In this moment, they are bound together, not only by their shared lycanthropic nature but also by a deep and profound connection to each other and the world around them. Silence falls upon the clearing, broken only by the gentle rustling of leaves and the distant sounds of awakening wildlife. It is a moment of profound peace, a sacred pause in the bustling chaos of everyday life. In this stillness, the werewolves find solace, strength, and a renewed sense of purpose. The morning ceremony serves as a reminder of the pack's inherent unity and the importance of their connection to nature. It symbolizes their commitment to balance, harmony, and the preservation of their ancient traditions. Through this ceremony, they are reminded of their place in the world, their responsibility to protect and nurture the natural order, and the strength they derive from their collective bond. As the ceremony concludes, the werewolves embrace one another, their eyes reflecting a deep sense of shared purpose and love. They disperse into the forest, carrying with them the serenity and unity that the morning ceremony has bestowed upon them, ready to face the challenges of the day with renewed vigor and a profound sense of peace After the morning ceremony, Ethan sought out Paul, his trusted beta, to inquire about any updates regarding the chained rabid people. As they stood amidst the tranquil surroundings of the pack's territory, Ethan's eyes locked with Paul's, their bond of loyalty and trust evident in their gaze. "Ethan," Paul began, his voice carrying a tinge of authority. "I've gathered some information that might shed light on our situation.” They were in Ethan’s meeting room when Paul opened the door for what looked like an ancient monk. Paul gestures from him to me and said, go hmm on Brunado tell him all you know. I believe that the rabid werewolves have succumbed to a condition known as Lycanthropic Madness. Lycanthropic Madness is a rare and severe form of insanity that affects werewolves, driving them into a state of mindless aggression. There is currently is no known cure for Lycanthropic Madness. It is considered a devastating and irreversible condition that plagues those afflicted, stripping them of their humanity and leaving behind only their primal instincts. Ethan rubbed his brow, Paul what do you make is this? Pauls states coldly that the only solution is to isolate and, if necessary, eliminate those afflicted to protect the safety of the pack and the wider community. Brunado interupts, forgive me Beta Paul but I think this sickness is linked to the moon in some way. Ethan leaned in listening harder because he had thought so too. Brunado sat down ready to explain. “the moon's power is closely tied to the delicate balance of supernatural energies that govern the werewolves' transformation and control over their lycanthropy. The moon's influence provides a necessary source of energy and stability, enabling werewolves to channel their wolf-like nature in a controlled manner. However, if someone were to tamper with or steal the moon's power, it disrupts this delicate balance. By depriving the werewolves of the natural energy they require, their control over their lycanthropy becomes unstable, especially already weakens vessels. This disturbance in the balance of energies can lead to the onset of lycanthropic madness, driving affected werewolves into a state of uncontrollable aggression and loss of their consciousness. The stolen moon's power, when misused or removed from its natural alignment, becomes a malevolent force that corrupts the werewolves' inherent abilities and their connection to their wolf side. The resulting madness is a consequence of this disruption, as the werewolves are no longer able to harness and channel their lycanthropy in a controlled and balanced manner”. Ethan absorbed this information, his mind racing with thoughts of Luna and the potential connection between her realm and the cursed individuals. However, a flicker of doubt crossed his mind. He knew Paul's history and his intolerant nature when it came to supernatural beings different from their own kind. Paul, a werewolf born into a lineage of strong-willed and traditional werewolves, had always struggled with accepting those who deviated from the norms of their pack. His rigid beliefs and deep-seated prejudices often clashed with Ethan's more open-minded and inclusive approach. As Ethan looked at Paul, contemplating whether to share his encounter with Luna, he hesitated. The memory of Luna's enchanting presence and the secrets she held threatened to spill from his lips. But he knew Paul's reaction would likely be one of skepticism and disdain. Paul's intolerance had its roots in the deeply ingrained history of their pack. Their ancestors had often viewed other supernatural beings as threats, seeking to maintain their dominance and preserve their own kind above all else. It was a history filled with conflict and mistrust, perpetuating an environment that stifled understanding and acceptance. Ethan understood the weight of his responsibilities as the potential next alpha and the importance of maintaining unity within their pack. Sharing his encounter with Luna, a being unlike any they had encountered before, would only deepen the divide and create further tension within their already fragile community. With a heavy sigh, Ethan made the difficult decision not to divulge his encounter with Luna to Paul. He recognized that now was not the time to challenge Paul's beliefs or risk potentially alienating him from their cause. Instead, he resolved to seek guidance from Luna discreetly and find a way to see if she knew anything or could help. There must have been a reason she was in the woods that day too!
