Traffic is the worst f*****g thing that can happen to me today! The thought of missing out on Ember’s contract signing, and the potential date that would follow drives me crazy. I glance at her every now and then wanting to insult her, yell at her, just vent my frustration at her. But the pitiful, regretful look on her face gives me pause. I see her slide down as far as she can into the seat. After working with her for over two years, I came to notice her little quirks. I notice how she speaks softly when asked a question. Her voice delicate like a bell, but smooth and sort of nice to listen to. I notice how quickly she does her work, even tasks that are not her responsibility, she finishes in record time. Yet, no one bothers to remember her name. I notice how she tends to make herself seem smaller, so she doesn’t take up space. In ever meeting she finds the smallest, out of the way corner to sit in. She only speaks when spoken to, and takes the notes diligently.
My annoyance ebbs away, but not enough to keep me from mumbling my irritation to the empty air. I can tell she can hear me to some extent as she grips her bag tighter to her chest and looks straight at the space in front of her. I sigh, calming myself before asking if her foot is okay after my sudden stop. I am looking straight ahead, but I can see her nod out of the corner of my eyes. The irritation returns.
I reach over and turn her face to me. Her deep, hazel eyes open wide with shock and I smell the lavender perfume she is wearing. I find my eyes gazing down at her lips. They look plush and kissable. The light brown lipstick matches her skin tone and reminds me of melted chocolate. I force my gaze back to her, as I realize I can see her massive clevage past her lips. “I prefer spoken answers. Are you okay?” I ask softer than I had intended.
She answers in that soft voice of hers and I hold her gaze longer than needed. Her hazel eyes show her feelings for me so clearly it’s almost laughable. I look at her lips again and wonder how she would react if I suddenly kissed her. A grin begins to play at the corner of my mouth and I lean in an inch before the car behind us blares its horn, jolting me back to reality. I release her and flip off the bastard behind us. I can hear her breathing stutter beside me and I ease forward with traffic wondering what the hell got into me. I almost wanted to kiss her. Nonsense.
